“Alright, alright!” Vivian, seeing Ethan’s anger, reluctantly turned to me. “Sophia, I… I apologize. For what happened earlier.”
Her apology sounded more like a curse.
“Happy now?” Ethan looked at me. “We can start over. Vivian will move out of the pack house, you can be Luna again…”
“No need,” I cut him off.
Just then, Sarah ran over in her wedding dress.
“Sophia! I’ve been looking all over for you!” she said, out of breath. “The ceremony’s about to get to the ring exchange, and you need to be up there as my maid of honor…”
“Maid of honor?” Ethan looked stunned.
“Yep,” Sarah said with a smile. “Sophia’s my best friend, of course she’s my maid of honor. By the way, who are you two?”
“I’m Sophia’s…” Ethan stopped, not knowing how to introduce himself.
“Ex–mate,” I finished for him. “Sarah, I’ll be right there.”
Sarah nodded, gave Ethan and Vivian a curious look, and then left.
“So,” Ethan turned to me, a mix of emotions in his eyes, “you really are just here for a friend’s wedding.”
“I told you I was.”
“You didn’t come to get my attention?”

attention?” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Ethan, do you really think you’re worth that kind of effort?”
His face changed. “I know you’re still angry, but the pack’s crisis…”
“The pack’s crisis has nothing to do with me.” I turned to leave.

I walked towards Sarah’s wedding ceremony without looking back.
