Chapter 105
Soleil led Brenda and me to the lounge on the second floor while instructing one of her people to bring needles and thread.
Brenda had wanted to remove the dress so I could work on it, but since we couldn’t find a shirt in her size, I had to sew it while she was still wearing it.
Still,
half an hour later, I had repaired the dress so well that no one would have guessed it had been ruined. “See that? This is what it means to have a big heart, Brenda You should learn from her instead of your self- important friends with main character syndromes,” Soleil sharked between bites of her pastry.
Brenda looked pretty upset but wasn’t about to defy the Kenway heiress.
“It’s all Edith’s fault!” she grumbled. “I’m so not her friend anymore!”
Soleil clapped the crumbs off her hands. “Aite. Let’s go, Miss Jones!”
“Miss Jones?” I laughed. “What happened to ‘Tay‘?”
“Fine, Tay. In return, you can only call me Sol.”
Soleil was cheery, spunky, and a lot of fun. It was hard not to like her.
I thought of my questions and decided to ask, “You knew me, didn’t you? Back when we first met at the hospital?”
Soleil laughed awkwardly. “Well, you did just go viral on the Internet. Also, being as gorgeous as you are helped my memory.”
I was a little skeptical. “You only knew me because of that incident?”
“Oh, alright. You got me.”
For some reason, warmth spread through my chest… and my heart was beating fast. “When did you really know me, Sol? And why is your family so nic-”
“Oopsie, he’s here!”
I turned. Soren!
“You wanna know, Tay? You gotta ask my brother yourself. Anyway, see ya!”
And just like that, she exited the room through another stairwell.
I watched Soren approach, my heart quickening its pace.
By this point, I was fully convinced that I wasn’t overthinking our interactions. There were too many so–called coincidences–because none of them had been coincidences at all.
Soren was consciously trying to approach me, and the rest of the Kenways were simply playing support.
I did my best to stay calm and forced a smile. “M–Mr. Kenway.”
He nodded lightly. “I’m sorry for what you had to go through, Taylor. We should have done better.”
“No, no way!” I waved my hands in surprise. “How was that your fault? Brenda was fooled by Edith’s made–up stories. She was just trying to defend her friend’s brother.”
“We’re the hosts, Taylor. We shouldn’t have let our guests experience that at our event.”

I shrugged. “It’s fine. Madame Kenway and Miss Kenway both stood up for me. Honestly, I felt more smug than embarrassed.”
He laughed. “Soleil takes after my mother’s maiden name, Taylor. Soleil Crowe.”
“No wonder!” I exclaimed. “But… I didn’t know she was your sister. I’ve seen her a few times already!”
“I know.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
“She wouldn’t let me. Said it’s ‘funnier‘ that way.”
Well, that sounded like Soleil, all right.
