I was so moved, I could have cried right then and there. His attention to detall was on another level!
1 let out an exaggerated laugh. “Gee, Mr. Kenway, you sure know everything!”
1 fawned dramatically.
“I grew up in the army,” Soren said with a smile.
“Oh, right.”
Anyone in the army would have learned some basic first aid given the hazards they faced so frequently.
He handed me the menu. “Alright, let’s grab something to it, okay? This café has a few set lunches, so let’s go with those this time. Then, once I’m done with my work in the next two days, I’ll take you somewhere better.”
Just like that, the topic was over.
I was stunned. It had only just occurred to me that even after his business trip, he was still a busy man–and yet, he made time to check on me.
My eyes drifted over the menu without really seeing it, my mind already racing with even more thoughts. If he kept being this nice and caring to me….
How was I supposed to remind myself that we were only going to be friends?!
Goddamn it.
What was Soren thinking? Was this even how people repaid someone else’s kindness?
While we were dining, Michael showed up. “Sir, the medicine you asked for.”
“Glad I can count on you as always,” Soren said.
He passed the bag to me. “There are instructions inside on how to use the creams. Follow them, okay? That way, you won’t have to worry about it leaving a scar.”
I looked inside the bag–antiseptic cream, anti–inflammatory cream, and a tube of scar gel.
God, his attentiveness struck again!
“Thank you, Mr. Kenway!”
“Do you want me to apply them for you?” he asked.
Startled, I shook my head. “You don’t have to, Mr. Kenway! You have a bazillion things to take care of after coming back from your trip, so we should finish our lunch quickly so you can get to them, right? There’s no need to trouble yourself, Mr. Kenway!”
“Gosh, do you always refer to your friends by their surname and title?” Soren asked, elegantly wiping his mouth with a napkin. “When are you going to stop calling me ‘Mr. Kenway‘?”
I froze. The first time I had visited the Kenway residence to take everyone’s measurements, he had told me to call him “Soren.” But there was no way I could. I was neither a friend nor family.
“Um… Are you sure? If I just call you Soren, it sounds-”
“Like what? I thought that’s what names were for,” he interrupted.

I opened my mouth, scrambling for another argument. “I–nean, it’s pretty normal to call you Mr. Kenway, right? Michael does it, and in business, we usually-”
“You’re not my assistant or anyone working under me. You’re also not my business partner,” Soren countered.
I sank into silence, not knowing what to say
He took the opening. “Soren‘ will be nice.”
My cheeks burned.
Luckily, Michael showed up and saved the day!
“Sir, HQ knows you’ve returned to Metropolis. They’d like to see you now,” he said quietly in his ear.
Soren nodded. “Got it.”
I stood. “I shouldn’t keep you any longer. When you’re free, let me know. My turn to treat you to a meal as thanks for your concern.”
I shook the bag.
He smiled. “Sounds good. I just have to finish my task for this week.”
“Okay! See you next week, then.”
I smiled and followed him out of the café.
Just as he was about to get into his car, Soren suddenly turned back and said, “Take a few days off from working on my suit, alright? You can always resume after your wound has healed.”
