I felt warm and fuzzy. “I will!”
I couldn’t help but listen to Soren, letting go of my usual attempts to act like a tough girlboss.

I watched as the Audi drove away, the bag still hanging from my fingers. His smile, his words… they circled in my
mind.
“Soren Kenway, just what do you think you are doing? Are you really trying to repay me, or is that just a cover for something more–something beyond friendship?”
I couldn’t tell, not at all. And I couldn’t ask him directly.
First, we were from two different worlds, our statuses too far apart.
Second, I wasn’t divorced from Edward yet, so starting a new relationship was out of the question. Not even close.
It was Maddison’s funeral. I had ordered ten expensive wreaths and had them delivered to the venue before I even arrived.
The event was set to begin at 8:30 a.m., and the wreaths had already arrived before I did. I entered the main hal and saw Maddison’s photo, somber music playing in the background.
I actually felt a little sad, too.
Harry, Cameron, and Maddison’s twin brother, Miles, were greeting the guests. Edward was with them.

I asked an employee to help bring in the wreaths. Seeing the quantity, he quickly summoned two to assist.
The Jones family members noticed the small commotion and were startled. “Taylor?!”
“Yeap. In the flesh. I suppose I can’t look away from someone who’s, after all, my sister,”
“I replied.
“You’ve got a bigger heart than your jerk of a father, Taylor, I’m glad you turned out better than him.”
That was Harry’s younger sister and my aunt, Lola. She had always been more sensible than her brother, and I respected her for it.
“Thank you for understanding, Aunt Lola.” I put on a look of hurt. “He’s terrible, but he’s still my father. You can’t just run from family, huh?”
Suddenly, a loud shout echoed from the hall. “Out! I want these out of here, right now!”
Cameron was throwing another fit. She had kicked down every wreath I had bought, stomping on them like a madwoman.

“Yes! She’s fucking wrong! Maddie doesn’t need her patronzing, sniggering, insincere pity! You think she’s here for a funeral? No! She’s here for a fucking parade!
Harry tried to pull her away. “What are you doing?! Taylor is still part of the Jones
“Maddie… My Maddie… Why did you have to die so soon? Why suffer another round of humiliation, even after everything you’ve been through? God, have mercy!”
She fell to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.

Harry tried to help her up, but she refused to stand.
Edward limped over, but he couldn’t assist her either. Eventually, It took Harry and Miles to pull her to her feet.

Edward looked at me, then turned back to Cameron, his expression darkening slightly,
“Mrs. Jones, she’s here out of goodwill. Please don’t act this way,” he said, his tone calmer. “We don’t want the public to hear about this, do we?”
Cameron was stunned at first, then fury flooded her face.
“Maddie’s only just! Died!” she snarled. “She’s not even six feet under yet, and you’re already defending that bitch?!”
Edward’s face darkened. “Why do you need to make things so difficult, at a time like this?”
“So you do know what this place is!” she spat. “Then do what Maddison would have wanted! Slap that bitch as hard as you can right now, in front of my poor Maddie! If it weren’t for her… If she’d just helped… Maddte wouldn’t be dead!”
I had intended to remain a bystander, staying out of it. But Cameron was becoming more and more unbearable.
