The crowd jolted as if snapping out of a trance.
They quickly adjusted their demeanor, stealing wary glances at Cameron, whose face was contorted with rage. She glared at Edward like a predator moments before the kill.
And then, without warning, she lunged at him and stomped on him with all her strength.
“You son of a bitch! My daughter is lying right there, and you’re pulling this shit at her funeral?! Fuck you and your pathetic attempt at gaining pity! No one forced you to marry Maddie back then anyway, you shameless asshole!”
She sent Edward rolling across the floor, but she wasn’t finished. She was a woman possessed, hurling insult after insult as she kept brutalizing him.
I watched it all unfold, my expression unreadable.
Edward had tried to play both sides, but in the end, he was despised by both of the people he had sought to please.
“Stop!” someone cried. “He’s bleeding! Stop it!”
I froze. Blood pooled on the floor.
Edward’s face had gone as white as a sheet.
Had Cameron hit somewhere critical, or had one of his old wounds reopened?
Harry had been trying to restrain Cameron from the start, but he hadn’t managed to stop her.
Now, though, the sight of a bleeding Edward made him panic. He barked at Miles and called for other relatives to help pull Cameron away.
Harry, ever the businessman, knew he had to protect Edward. The Kennedys were a juggernaut, after all.
He quickly helped Edward up,
“Are you okay, Eddy? Please, don’t mind Cameron, alright? She’s just overwhelmed!” he babbled.

Edward Ignored him and picked up the diamond ring from the floor. His body trembled as he stumbled toward me again.
“One more chance, Tay. We’ll have another wedding…” he pleaded.
I took the ring, walked outside the hall, and hurled it as far as I could into the lake.
The crowd gasped as I dusted off my hands and walked away.
On my way home, I got a call from my grandmother.
