The officers wisely chose to ignore him and turned to me instead. “Miss Jones, please follow us back to the station to record a statement.”
“Of course,” I replied.
After all, I was the one who had reported them!
As Harry was led away in handcuffs, the workers at his new company watched in stunned silence. These poor folks would now have to find new jobs, with the company on the brink of collapse.
By the time I left the station, it was already late evening.
Watching the dazzling lights from a distance, I suddenly realized how much I missed my grandmother.
I drove to her house for dinner, eager to share everything.
I told my grandmother and aunt all about my revenge, much to their delight.
My grandmother even helped herself to a second helping of dinner!
“They’ve finally been punished for their crimes after evading justice for years! They didn’t deserve that time at all,
“my grandmother remarked. “I feel sad, though, remembering that your mom never got to see this day.”
“Oh! Thanks for the reminder, Granny! I’ll tell Mom tomorrow!” I replied, trying to reassure her.
She nodded. “She’ll love hearing this!”
The next morning, I visited my mother at the graveyard with a large bouquet.
I shared everything with her–how Edward had abandoned me, Maddison had overtaken my wedding, Harry’s plot, Maddison’s death, Harry’s downfall…
I thought I’d told my mother everything she would want to hear until a handsome, regal face surfaced in my mind.
Just thinking about him brought a warm flutter to my heart I couldn’t help but feel as bashful as a teenager in love
“Mom? Um… See, I think… I think I have a crush, okay?
“He said I saved his life twice and he’s repaying me now. But, well… I kind of don’t think what he’s doing is as simple as that.
“Does it matter, though? Our statuses are just too different. Even if the Jones family was still an elite one–which it’s definitely not now–I still wouldn’t be a match for him

“Oh, I’m better than alright. I was telling her some great news.”
“Oh yeah?” His voice perked up. “Such as?”
