Chapter 152
I thought Cameron had learned her lesson. I didn’t expect her to try again let alone with someone’s help.
It was a Saturday.
Jean, Soleil, and I had planned to meet up at the Oriole.

I’d worked overtime that day before rushing over in the evening. After greeting them both, I got a call from Lola.
“Oof. I gotta take this one. You guys go ahead,” I said.
“Aren’t you the busiest woman in the world, Tay?” Jean starked.
I left the room and answered. “Hello?”
“How are you doing, Taylor dear?” Lola asked.
This was such an obvious lead–up to something else. “Aunt Lola, I’m busy. Just get to the point.”
“Okay,” she replied, a little embarrassed. “It’s about your dad. He’s going to be imprisoned, isn’t he? Are you really just going to let that happen?”
“Oh great. Here comes another one,” I muttered.
“Uh, yeah? Because I’m the one who put him there? What, am I supposed to fish him out? And how exactly would that benefit me?” I replied, amused. “Besides, he genuinely broke the law. Multiple laws. I can’t save him from that.”
“I know your dad did this to himself, but he’s family. Hasn’t he been punished enough? You should show some mercy to one of your own,” Lola said.
“What are you on, Aunt Lola? Did Cameron cry on your shoulder or something?”
Lola stammered, “W–Well, I mean… she called, yes. She said they’re in a lot of debt, that they have no money for food, that they’re going to die soon… She said she asked you for help, but you wouldn’t give her a dime, and then you humiliated her…
“I know you’ve been through a lot, but they’re in a really bad place. Can’t you just show some mercy?”
I snickered. She was the one who had begged me to protect her and several shareholders‘ profit margins when Harry’s crimes surfaced. She had acted like she was on my side back then.
And now that the crisis was over and those shareholders were sitting cushy, she suddenly felt bad for the culprit who caused it all? Enough to try to gaslight me?
“If you feel so bad for your precious nephew, go help them yourself. Me? I’m proud to be a miser if it means keeping them at a distance. They made a fortune stepping all over my mom back then, didn’t they?”
“Well, if you don’t want to give them money… how about some shares? Give them a way to earn an income? It’d be the same as charity,” Lola suggested.
I sneered. “Cameron isn’t even at retirement age. And Miles is able–bodied and perfectly capable of getting a job. Why can’t they just work like the rest of us?”
“It’s hard to make money nowadays. Just sell them a few of your shares…”
I was getting really irritated with Lola. What a fucking pain. I wanted to hang up right then and there, but suddenly, I had an idea.

“Do you want my shares, Aunt Lola? I’ll sell them all to you at a very low rate. You’ll become the biggest shareholder of Harbinger Inc. The General Manager position is currently vacant, so you can take that too. The company will be yours,” I offered.
