Chapter 153
After a brief silence, Lola replied excitedly, “You mean it?!!
“Of course. Ever since I acquired these shares, trouble has followed me nonstop–even down to making these calls. At this point, I’d rather just liquidate them!” I replied
Lola ignored the subtle jab and laughed sweetly. “How much do you want to sell them for?”
“They’re worth 10,000,000 dollars right now, but I’ll sell them to you for less. After all, you’re family,” I said. ” 8,000,000.”
“Oh, that’s a bit much. I can’t afford that right now… Can’t you lower the price? We’re family, remember?” she replied, her tone laced with greed.
I knew her family could easily afford it, so I wasn’t about to budge. “I’m already selling at a loss here, Aunt Lola. If you think it’s too expensive, I’ll just sell them to other shareholders. I’m sure they’d be happy to-
“Wait, Taylor! Give me until tomorrow!”
“Alright, but not too long,” I warned. “Otherwise, I’ll sell them to other shareholders.”
“I’ll talk to your uncle and get back to you with our decision.”
“Okay. Goodbye for now.”
I smiled to myself, pleased with how things were going. Another thrilling show was about to begin!
Lola didn’t ask me to help Cameron out of genuine concern but because it cost her nothing. If she could
manipulate me into assisting Cameron, the latter would owe her, and Lola could continue playing the role of the good guy.
Meanwhile, Cameron wouldn’t thank me for helping. She’d likely complain that I didn’t do enough or find some other reason to criticize me.
What if I let Lola take control as the boss and largest shareholder? If I sold all my shares to her, Cameron would be livid and turn her anger toward Lola.
Lola, unwilling to give up the newfound power and benefits, would resist.
In that scenario, they’d become each other’s enemies, tearing each other apart. And I’d be free to sit back, popcorn in hand, and enjoy the show.
Man, this might just be my best scheme yet. I couldn’t wait to see how long Lola could keep up that moral high ground!
Jean noticed the grin on my face and asked, “What was that all about? And why do you look so happy?”
“Because I just played a game of hot potato and I’m winning,” I replied.
“Hot potato?”
“Oh, I decided not to get tangled up in the Jones family’s business and sold the shares at a low price.”
“You should’ve done that a long time ago, girl! I know your mom wanted you to get involved, but honestly, I think she’d rather see you safe and at peace, not dragged into all their mess!” Jean responded.
I agreed. I had done what my mother wanted by acquiring the shares. I’d fulfilled her wish.
There was no reason to hold onto them anymore.

Besides, I was still making money off of them. With this 8,000,000 dollars, my savings, and the bonuses the company made in a year, maybe I could pay back Soren the 20,000,000 dollars first. T
Ha, maybe that 40,000,000–dollar debt wasn’t as impossible to clear as I’d thought!
My mood lifted the more I thought about it. “Let’s drink, girls! To celebrate my upcoming freedom from all of this!”
“I’ve got a limited edition Lafite ready, thanks to Dad, but sol says she can’t drink! What a letdown…”
