Chapter 175
Chapter 175
“Have the two of you thought this through? Maybe things aren’t as bad as they seem. Maybe all you need is a little communication,” the man sald, pushing our papers back toward us.
Alarmed, 1 glared at Edward.
“What the hell is this? Even if you drag this out, we’ll still see each other this Thursday in court! How is this gonna help?” I hissed in a low, angry voice.
He stared at me quietly for a moment before stating, “I agree to this annulment. Our relationship is beyond repair.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
“I see,” the man said, taking the papers back. “There will be a 30–day cooldown period during which either party can retract their consent. If no retraction occurs within that time, your annulment will be finalized.”
I was baffled–and pretty damn pissed. A 30–day cooldown period?! Who was this for?! Why was it so hard to just break away from this dick?!
“Okay, fine. Thanks,” I muttered as politely as I could before walking out.
Edward followed me as we stepped out of the building, catching up and grabbing my hand.
I turned sharply and raised my voice. “Let go of me. Now!”
“When our annulment is finalized… I’ll fight to win you back! We’ll start over!” he declared.
I scowled. “Oh God, book yourself a shrink!”
I wrenched my hand free and strode away.
As I reached my car, I could still hear him shouting after me. “I’ll give you the freedom to see Soren Kenway, but mark my words–you’ll see him for who he really is, and you won’t like it! You’ll come back to me!”
“This fucking lunatic!!!
I got into my car and drove off.
Jean was way too invested in my divorce saga. She called me while I was driving
“At least he didn’t pull any bullshit this time,” I said. “We’ve submitted our papers. Now, we’ve got a 30–day cooldown period.”
“What about Thursday?”
“Oh, Thursday is still on. I’m not giving him any chance to wriggle out of this!”
“Nice! I’ll be there for morale!”
“Thanks.”
I was already prepared for Thursday’s battle–I’d even notified the “support group.”
And yet, barely two days after filing for the annulment, the drama continued.
Chapter
The next day, I got a call from Edward’s sister.
“Are you free to meet tonight, Taylor?” Edith asked without preamble.
I was busy altering a suit for Soren, so I replied, “No.”
“It’ll only take an hour. Won’t cut into your work time.”
“Just say whatever you want over the phone and stop wasting my time. We hate each other’s guts, and I’m not interested in a brawl.”
“I have a video proving you had an affair while still married to my brother. If you don’t show up, I’ll spread it all over the Internet.”
I froze, caught between shock and confusion. Had someone recorded me meeting Soren?
I didn’t give a damn about my own reputation–after everything these assholes had done, I had none left anyway.
However, Soren was different. He was untarnished, flawless. I wouldn’t let a single stain touch him.
Edith thought she had me cornered. “I’ve sent you the location. See you at 6:00 p.m…. or else.”
