Chapter 186
When it was time for debates, Edward’s lawyer focused solely on refuting every point Ash made. There was no sign of cooperation whatsoever.
“I thought the defendant would be more cooperative,” Asli buttered under his breath to me. “But right now, their strategy seems to hinge on emphasizing how happy your relationship was. The judge might be swayed to their side this time. If that happens, we might need a second fri
A second trial? That would mean at least three more montlis! No–I couldn’t bear to wait even one more day.
I raised my hand, interrupting Edward’s lawyer. “Sir, I’m not feeling well. May I request a short break?”
“The court approves a ten–minute recess.”
“Thank you.”
As I passed by the defendant’s seat, I leaned in and whispered, “We need to talk.”
Edward scowled but followed me out.
Once outside, I showed him the video again. “Are you really willing to risk me showing this to the police? Do you want your sister to go to prison?”
Edward stared at my phone, his lips parting slightly. He hesitated–a reaction that shocked me. Was he really willing to sacrifice his own sister to cling to this broken partnership?
A sense of dread washed over me.
Suddenly, Sally burst through the crowd in a panic. “Why are the two of you out here? Is it over?! Are you two done?! Delete that damn video, Taylor!”
Her a
appearance reignited a flicker of hope in me.
“No, I can’t do that,” I replied, rolling my eyes. “Please talk some sense into your son before it’s too late. Given what he’s doing in there, he’s about to send your daughter to prison.”

“It’s not over yet?” Sally stared at her son, baffled. “Then why are you two out here?”
“Your son isn’t cooperating with me, so I forced a recess to talk some sense into him.”
“You’re not cooperating?!” Sally’s voice was laced with fury and disappointment.
“After everything that’s happened–what the hell, Edward? You’re Edith’s brother. You’re supposed to protect her!” she wailed, beating her chest, her elite composure completely shattered.
“She slit her wrist, Edward–your sister tried to kill herself We were lucky her doctor found her in time and saved her before it was too late!
“I was this close to losing my daughter… What did I do to deserve this?! Why is my son an obsessed lunatic who won’t listen to his mother, while my daughter has to suffer like this?!”
I was stunned. I hadn’t expected Edith to actually attempt suicide.
t
Even Edward seemed shaken. He reached out to help his mother to her feet. “S–She tried to kill herself?”
Their voices carried, and my support group–who had been waiting outside the courtroom–overheard the commotion and rushed over.
They quickly surrounded us.

“Mrs. Kennedy! What’s wrong? Did you say your daughter tried to kill herself?”
“Oh, what happened? Did some boy break her heart?”
These women, though members of the city’s elite, were little more than bored middle–aged housewives constantly on the prowl for fresh gossip. A scandal like this was like catnip to them.
No one outside the family knew what had happened to Edit yet. The Kennedys had managed to keep the news under wraps. But with Sally and Edward shouting about it in public, it was becoming harder to maintain that secrecy.
“Your family’s reputation and your sister’s future are in your hands, Edward! Get that through your head and stop. this pointless opposition!” I warned in a low voice.
Edward, still holding his mother’s hand, turned to look at me. He hesitated, his resolve wavering.
