Cherry said, her voice tinged with excitement, “The Kenways! You know, the mysterious Kenway family? The one whose ancestor founded this nation? The family of modern aristocrats?
“The Kenways have always been shrouded in mystery. Hardly anything is ever known about them! And yet, they came to ‘us‘ for a design!
“If word of this deal gets out, every other member of the rich and elite will be ordering from us!”
A manager chirped, “We’re getting rich!”
“Hold up!” I interrupted, forcing myself to stay calm. “Are you sure we’re not being scammed?”
Cherry rolled her eyes. “I’ve already verified the man’s identity, Tay–Tay. He was well–mannered, polite, and even paid a deposit.”
I was stunned.
“So, when are you free? You’ll be swamped with agendas next month, so my suggestion is to schedule your appointment over these days as soon as possible!”
“I know, I know!” I replied, barely able to contain my excitement.
This was our ticket to fame, fortune, glory, and God knew what else!
There was no way I could let this opportunity slip through my fingers.
I punched the numbers into my screen giddily and walked over to the large floor–to–ceiling window, trying my best to stay composed.
Cherry was right. The man I spoke to was incredibly well–mannered and polite. We scheduled everything smoothly.
When he offered to send a driver, I felt a little embarrassed. “I can drive to the Kenway residence on my own, Charles. You don’t need to arrange a driver for me.”
Charles, the butler, politely declined. “Miss Jones, the Kenway residence is remote and hard to locate. Finding it is quite a challenge, especially if you’ve never been there. It would be much easier to have one of our drivers assist you.”
“Well, okay! See you tomorrow, then.”
Still skeptical of Charles‘ claim, I searched for the Kenway residence in Beaumont.
To my surprise, nothing came up on GPS. What kind of place was hidden from commercial satellite maps?
“Cherry, it feels like entering a black hole,” I muttered nervously, gripping my phone.
The whole situation felt surreal.
“What if I don’t come back?”
“Don’t worry about it. If you really are confined there, you should work hard to become Mrs. Kenway! I heard the second scion himself is single,” Cherry teased.
“That same Kenway who’s rumored to suffer from some mysterious illness? Maybe he concocted this whole scheme to trick Miss Jones into going there… and then capture her as his wife!” another manager chimed in.
I rolled my eyes at their dramatic imaginations.

Everything about this request sounded fishy, but I decided to take it on. High risk, high reward, right?
I had recently been turned into an abandoned fiancée. What was there to lose?
At worst, I would just die.

The next morning, after making some arrangements with my employees, I waited for Charles‘ call.
“Miss Jones, a few other ladies are interested as well. I suggest bringing an assistant with you,” the butler said.
It was exactly what I wanted to hear. I wasted no time inviting Cherry.
An opulent car awaited us downstairs.
Cherry gasped. “What even is this?!”
“Uh… A Bentley state limousine, I think?” I answered quietly before reminding her, “Shh, we’re not supposed to let people know how stunned we are!”
“But we can’t ‘not‘ be stunned. This is insane!” she whispered back.
She wasn’t wrong. Even among the wealthy, there were hierarchies. The gap between families could be enormous.
The Kenways, though, were at the very apex.
Securing a Rolls–Royce was one thing–it had become almost commonplace for the elite–but a state limousine? That required political connections and a special greenlight
It was as aristocratic as it got.
