When someone cared about another person, they were mindful of everything that person possessed. Even the smallest pain was worthy of concern.
Real life wasn’t like fiction. Most people didn’t experience cataclysmic events or life threatening situations. Thus, where else could we show our care and love, if not through the mundane sufferings of daily life?
The more I thought about it, the more I regretted how I’d spoken to Soren. I really needed to apologize.
“Miss Jones? Miss Jones!”
I snapped out of my thoughts. “Oh! Yes?”
Jamie fixed me with a questioning look. “Are you alright? We can always talk about this on Monday
“No, let’s do it today. I’m free today.” I forced myself to sit up, holding the ice pack to my forehead white flipping through the documents with my free hand. “What are your questions? I’ll answer them.”
This company was the culmination of my blood, sweat, and tears. And now, I had found someone just as invested in making it better as I was! How could I be a deadweight to him?
After my fiasco with Edward, I’d realized just how important a woman’s career was to her–especially one who didn’t have family backing or support.
Even Soren couldn’t get in the way of my career and business!
Jamie and I spent the whole afternoon together.
We managed to make some progress on tidying up work from past years and set up a basic plan for Medhelanon’s fashion show.
“Let’s put a pin in it here. We can finalize the details during a meeting, and then let the other departments contribute their expertise. Afterward, I’ll let you study the plan for any issues,” I said.
The ice pack was starting to freeze my fingers off, so I tossed it aside and stuffed my hand in my pocket for warmth.
“Understood. I’ll finish this as quickly as I can,” Jamie replied, starting to clean up the documents.
Maybe he noticed what I did because he suddenly paused and poured me a glass of warm water. “Here. It’ll help warm your hand.”
I raised an eyebrow in surprise. “Oh, thank you.”
He looked like a gym bro who wouldn’t normally care about the details, but I realized he was actually pretty
observant.
My hand felt better. “Alright. It’s getting late, so let me treat you to dinner. I’ve been so busy since you joined that I didn’t even throw you a welcome party. I’m really sorry about that.”
Jamie turned to the window in surprise. “It’s snowing?!”
“It’s been snowing elsewhere since noon,” I said.

Jamie smiled. “Would I be working on a weekend if I had a girlfriend?”
I froze, the implication of his remark hitting me.
Uh–oh. This was awkward. Hotpot wasn’t typically the go- choice for a lunch between two people with a professional relationship.
Two single people–a man and a woman–caling hotpol together could easily invite rumors.
However, I had already agreed. If I changed my mind, I’d come off as overdramatic, like I was overthinking things.
I needed to work with Jamie on a lot of things in the future so I couldn’t let him think I was a troublesome employer. I had to go along with the hotpot idea.
I chose a high–end restaurant, and we headed there.
While we ate, we talked about current fashion trends and realized we shared identical opinions and thoughts. I couldn’t help but wish we had met sooner!
