My face instantly turned bright red as I shot a nervous glance at Soren before saying, “Nothing’s happened between us, I said that on purpose to try and get you off my back!”
Edward stared at me, probably struggling to figure out whether I was telling the truth.
Meanwhile, Soren remained unfazed by Edward’s “breaking news,” having already heard the details from Richard and me. In fact, he didn’t seem affected at all.
Instead, he looked at me with a gentle smile and said, “Let’s go, Taylor. We’re going to be late.”
“Okay.” I smiled and walked past Edward.
“Taylor!” Edward turned around and yelled, “You’ll never be good enough for the Kenways, so wake up! Your father’s a criminal in jail, and you’ve already annulled a civil partnership, practically a divorcee. There’s no way they’d accept a woman like you!”
I ignored him completely and got into Soren’s car, which offered me peace and serenity,
After putting on my seatbelt, I glanced at Soren apologetically. “I’m sorry, Soren. I didn’t know he’d be here. Please don’t pay any mind to what he says.””
Soren drove casually, still looking as elegant as ever.
He smiled and said, “Shouldn’t I be the one to console you? You shouldn’t pay him any mind. My family would never have even let me talk to you if they prioritized someone’s status.”
“Huh?” My mouth hung open, too shocked to say anything
Did he mean that everyone in the Kenway family had accepted me? Why? How?
I didn’t think I was anywhere near good enough to be accepted, though.
Soren smiled fondly when he saw my stunned expression. “Alright, enough about that.”
He then pulled out a lunchbox he had set aside. “I brought you breakfast. Have some while it’s still hot.”
I was genuinely surprised. “Breakfast? For me?”
After accepting the lunchbox, I said, “I was actually thinking of buying you breakfast before heading to the academy, in case you hadn’t eaten.”
After smiling for a moment, he suddenly asked, “Oh! Didn’t you say you were going to spend time with your former classmate? I brought another portion for her as well”
I was stunned. No wonder there were two lunchboxes! I had thought he was trying to fatten me up. “Aah… She had to head over to another district after we had dinner together last night. Apparently, she had something to look into. She’s actually closer to the academy now,” I explained.
Soren nodded, and we chatted about our time back at the academy during the drive.
Soren was certain that a lot had changed there since he hadn’t had time to visit in the past two years due to his work commitments.
Meanwhile, I felt guilty for not having returned since I graduated. There were times when I’d pass by the academy’s entrance and glance at it from afar.

After hanging up, I said, “My roommate’s there already. She said she’ll be waiting for me at the north entrance, so I’ll get off there.”
“Sure, I’ll stop the car there.”

I began thinking about my schedule for the day, wondering how late I’d be before I could head home.
Before I could ask, Soren said, “I’ll call you later when I’m done and send you home.”
“It’s alright. It’d be easier if I hailed a cab.””
Soren smiled, but without looking at me, he softly said, “I insist. It’ll be safer if I take you home.”
