Chapter 216
“Who?” I asked.
Jean patted my shoulder excitedly. “Turn around and see fit yourself!”
I turned around, completely unprepared to see Soren!
He was walking into the canteen with several of the academy’s faculty deans, drawing all eyes to him.
My former coursemates greeted the faculty deans respectfully, and the latter waved back in acknowledgment.
At that moment, Soren noticed where I was sitting and curled his lips into a smile.
I was so shocked to see him heading in my direction that I quickly waved my hand to stop him..
He seemed to understand what I meant, as his smile turned into a helpless expression.
Just then, the vice–rector struck up a conversation with him and gestured for him to head up to the second floor.
After shooting me another glance, he complied, making me heave a sigh of relief.
Canteen No. 5 served slightly higher–quality food at a slightly higher price point than the other cafeterias in the academy. It also had a VIP room on the second floor.
That space was usually reserved for welcoming important guests, which meant Soren was clearly a highly regarded alumnus.
Truthfully, I’d rather stay a small fry and remain invisible.
Amanda looked confused. “What’s the matter? Who are you looking at?”
I retracted my gaze and sat upright. “Nothing, just an old friend.”
Thankfully, Jean chose not to pry. Instead, she and Amanda started another topic while I continued eating.
After a while, I received a text message, which I soon realized was from Soren.
Soren: [Why are you trying to avoid me? Are you really so afraid your coursemates might see me?]
My face burned when I saw the message.
Of course I was afraid, duh! Why would you ask such an obvious question?!
Worried he might call if I didn’t reply, I took a moment to think before I started typing.
Me: [It’s not like that. I was just afraid the faculty deans would notice me if you came over and drag me into joining you all.]
Soren: [So what? It’s just a simple meal, isn’t it?]
Me: INo, thank you! I came back to the academy to walk around at my own pace and catch up with old coursemates. I don’t want to waste my social energy dealing with the faculty deans. It’d be too stressful for me.)
I added a sticker of a person shivering
To my surprise, Soren actually replied with a “hug” sticker
Soren: [I wish I could walk around freely too, but… there’s so much scheduled for me today.]
Then, he even sent a sticker of a person drawing circles in a corner!

I couldn’t help but imagine that little figure was him and giggle.
Me: [Well then, enjoy your day with the faculty deans as much as you can. In the meantime, I’ll walk around a bit longer on your behalf.]
Amanda suddenly nudged me. “Who are you texting? You’re giggling like a little girl.”
“It’s nothing. That old friend I mentioned invited me to lunch, but I refused,” I said nonchalantly, putting down my phone.
However, Jean knew me too well. She smirked as she glanced at me from the corner of her eye.
Later, at 2:30 p.m., a grand ceremony for the academy’s anniversary was held at the newly built gym.
We
“wanderers” gradually made our way inside from all directions, taking in the sight of the grand podium at the
center.
The faculty deans gave their speeches first, followed by the plumni.
Naturally, I wasn’t the least bit surprised to hear Soren was one of the distinguished alumni.
He rose from his VIP seat and walked toward the podium, greeted by thunderous applause. He responded with a slight nod of acknowledgment.
I had no idea what he said in his speech–my mind was too preoccupied with his glorious figure.
Although we weren’t officially a couple, I felt immense pride that someone so outstanding, so prestigious, and so accomplished a man who had contributed so much to society–was in love with me and me alone.
