I pretended to seem very troubled, nodding after a moment of contemplation. “Okay, I’ll delete the video, but only because you’re the one asking.”
I pulled out my phone, found the video, and deleted it in front of him. “Are we done?”
“Have you made any copies of that video?” Patrick asked.
I opened my Cloud and deleted all the evidence I had on her “All gone.”
Patrick nodded and smiled. “Thank you.”
I put my phone away and said politely, “I’ll be off then.”
“Wait!” Patrick suddenly called out to me.
“Is there something else?”
“Taylor… Do you think you could visit Edward on my behalf?” he asked. “He’s unconscious after being intoxicated, and we went through a lot of trouble to find him the blood he needed. But even after all that, he still won’t wake up…”
Patrick, a rather prominent man in his own right, had tears welling up in his eyes as he spoke. I could tell he was in immense pain.
“We haven’t had a day of peace since Edith’s incident, and now Edward’s fallen ill too…

From a father’s perspective, I understood his helplessness and pain. His daughter had been raped, her reputation ruined, and she would carry the trauma for life. Meanwhile, his son’s old illness had resurfaced, its outcome uncertain.
Any parent would crumble under such tragedies, with both children struck by misfortune.
Yet I couldn’t sympathize. His daughter had tried to inflict the same suffering she endured onto me, and his son had betrayed me, trampling my feelings. Worse, his son had continued to hurt me, over and over.
I wasn’t going to show them any mercy. After all, I wasn’t a saint.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t wish to see him again.” I nodded politely and turned to leave.
“Are you really going to be so heartless after all the years you’ve spent together? I’ll do whatever it is you want of us if you’re willing to see him, so please…”
Patrick continued calling out to me, but I walked toward my car and drove off without looking back.
