Chapter 235
Holy shit!
My face burned with shock, and I couldn’t finish my original message.
Soren had seen the previous message–even though I’d deleted it the moment it was sent!
I was so stunned that my mind went blank as I stared at my phone.
Suddenly, my phone rang, and Soren’s name flashed on the screen… He was calling me!
My hands were trembling so violently that I hung up in a panic.
That’s right, I chickened out again… I didn’t have the guts to answer his call.
Regret flooded me.
Why had I sent that message? Why had I been so impulsive?
My cheeks were still burning as I threw my phone onto the sofa, my heart pounding in my chest. I stood up as soon as a new message came through.
Soren: [I’ll swing by your house if you don’t pick up.]
Huh?! Was he joking? He wasn’t actually going to come to my house, was he?
My hands clenched into fists as I groaned in frustration.
And then, Soren called again.
I was a mess of emotions–flustered, nervous, restless, expectant, embarrassed, and… for some reason, excited and proud.
After all, who wouldn’t feel proud to be fancied by someone as prestigious and perfect as Soren?
Still caught up in all those conflicting emotions, I finally chose to answer the call.
“Hello?” My voice trembled uncontrollably.
“Taylor…” Soren’s voice was soft, gentle.
I could almost hear the smile in his voice as he asked, “Do you know why I still saw your message, even though you deleted it right after it was sent?”
“W–Why is that?” I stuttered, embarrassed.
“Because I was already holding my phone and just about to send you a message.”
Oh god, just kill me now…
“Does this mean we’re in sync?” Soren asked, his smile practically audible, completely unaware of how mortified. I was
I didn’t respond, just went silent.
“Why are you being shy again? Are you sure you’re not a turtle?” Soren teased.
Unable to stop myself, I muttered, “You’ve called me silly goose and scaredy cat before, and now you’re calling me a turtle. What’s next? Anyway, can you stop giving me nicknames?”

Chapter 235
“Hmm, let’s see… An ostrich would be a fitting nickname too,” he teased.
“No way!”
Our conversation was getting more and more childish, and was cringing hard.
I quickly tried to steer things back on track, saying, “By the way, you said you wanted to message me. What’s it about?”
I hoped the change of subject would wrap things up, but Soren quickly returned to his playful tone. “Nothing. I just finished work, thought of you, and decided to text and mess around a bit. Who knew you’d text me first?”
Mess around a bit? What was I, a pet?
I had nothing to say to that, so I decided to avoid the topic entirely. “I’m hanging up if you don’t need anything. I just got home after a long day and want to go to bed.”
“Okay, get some rest then. How about we have dinner tomorrow?” he suggested.
His invitation was casual enough that I saw no reason to refuse, but after everything that had happened today, who could predict what tomorrow might bring?
“Let’s see. I should be free unless something urgent comes up,” I replied.
“Alright then. I’ll be waiting to hear what kind of excuse you come up with tomorrow, you chicken.”
My face flushed once more… Another nickname!
I hung up and sank into the sofa to calm myself down, trying to regain my composure.
Would Soren think I accepted him because of the message I deleted?
No, I couldn’t let him think that. At least not until the appeal period ended at the month’s close. If he insisted on asking me to dinner tomorrow, I’d have to clarify things.
Once I sorted my thoughts and made my decision, I stood up to shower and rest.
Since I’d given Jamie a few days off to recover from his injuries, I had to handle everything at the company temporarily.
That day, I was so busy juggling tasks that I didn’t have time to think about anything else…
