The police officer was momentarily stunned before quickly moving to stop her.
Sally, too, was visibly shocked. Holding her daughter in herms, she cried, “I’m not being biased, Edith! Your brother’s very sick… What are we supposed to do?”
Sally suddenly glared at me, trying to pin the blame on the again.“This is all your fault, Taylor! You told us you’d already deleted the video!”
That’s when it hit me.
Edward had dared to appeal because he believed I no longer had the evidence against Edith.
Did this mean… Patrick had deliberately planned to run into me in the hospital parking lot that day?
A cold chill ran down my spine as a wave of fear washed over me.
I had always thought Patrick was the only reasonable person in his family, the one with a sense of
conscience.
But now, it was clear that he wasn’t as nice as he seemed. In fact, he was much better at concealing his true intentions and far more cunning.
“It’s true I deleted the video from my phone and my Cloud, Patrick witnessed it.” I sneered. “But I’ve learned to be extra cautious when dealing with people like you.”
Just then, my phone rang. Soren was calling.
I rejected the call, considering the situation I was in.
Sally and Edith were still trying to cause a scene, but the police officers had stopped them and were taking them in to give their statements.
With my task temporarily completed, I bade the officers farewell and left the station.
The moment I got in my car, Soren called again.
This time, I answered.
“Hello?”
“Why did you hang up on me? Were you busy?” Soren asked, his tone filled with concern.
With one hand on the steering wheel, I sighed faintly and replied, “Yeah, I’ve been really busy. Just got out of the police station.
“What happened?” Soren’s voice immediately grew anxious.
Without hesitation, I calmly said, “Edward appealed and requested a second trial. I got really mad, so I handed over the video evidence against his sister to the police.”
“What?” Soren sounded surprised, unlike his usual calm self. “He still won’t let you go?”
“Yeah.”
“Where are you going now? Home?” he asked,
“Mm–hmm…”
“I’ll come over.”

I didn’t reject him, knowing he would come over anyway, even if I did.
I hung up and drove home.
Halfway there, my phone rang again.
I frowned when I saw who it was–Edward.
What could he possibly want now?

I answered, sarcastically asking, “What’s the matter, Mr. Kemedy? Have you called to apologize and make peace?”
Edward’s fury was palpable as he yelled, “You’re becoming more and more cunning, Taylor. How could you lie to
father and betray his trust like that?”

“I had no choice. You and your family are all a bunch of cunning assholes,” I repleid. “Naturally, I had to make contingency plans when dealing with you, or who knows what would happen to me next?”
“Did you just call us a bunch of assholes? You ungrateful woman… Didn’t my mother and I treat you well in the past? How could you do this to us?!” Edward demanded.
“It’s true you were nice to me before, but that was only because you needed my blood. I only blame myself for being too blind to see through your schemes,” I said with a snicker, exposing their actions completely.
Without waiting for Edward to argue, I continued. “Do you honestly think I’m oblivious to what you people are thinking?
“Your old sickness is back, and you’ve got a rare blood type, which means you need me to donate my blood so you can survive.
“You’ll do whatever it takes to get it–even if you have to extract it from me by force.
“That’s also the reason you’re so determined to avoid the annulment, isn’t it? You were able to pretend before, but there’s no need for the act anymore, is there?”
