Soren looked at me with humor dancing in his eyes.

That was so unexpected that I laughed and relaxed.
“I
“Okay, ‘dude,“” I joked.
“Thank you for your work, Miss Jones,” he said.
He was incredible–he had a knack for saying just the right things to put me at ease.
“See you next time.” He turned to the driver. “They’re in your capable hands now, John. Please make sure they get home safely.”
“Yes, sir.”
He smiled at me and opened the door to an Audi A8, to my surprise.
A man of his status and power was driving a relatively commonplace luxury car like that? No wonder they said the Kenways were enigmatic and hard to notice.
Throughout our journey, Soren’s car was always leading the way.
While Cherry admired the sights of Beaumont, my mind was focused on the Audi ahead of us. I instinctively reached into my pocket for his handkerchief.
The memory of accidentally groping him resurfaced suddenly, and damn it, why did I feel like such a horndog for reminiscing about it?!

My cheeks flushed. I flexed my right hand and rubbed my palm against my knee. Then, I looked outside push the thoughts aside.
The Audi stayed about 160 feet ahead of us. Sometimes, it would disappear after turning a corner–and I’d feel a pang of loss in my chest.
But then, as soon as our car turned, the Audi reappeared, coursing steadily ahead of us, leading the way.
Sunlight streamed through the verdant woods that graced Beaumont, Shadows of foliage dotted the Audi’s black body as sunlight glittered and danced between the leaves.
The
e car seemed to radiate royalty and grace, inviting envy and admiration.
I had seen plenty of Audis in my life, but this particular Audi A8 felt like the noblest, rarest car I had ever encountered–because I knew Soren Kenway was sitting in it.
Once we were out of Beaumont, the Audi gave a short honk before speeding ahead, vanishing into the horizon.
I reeled. That honk was Soren bidding me farewell. My heart raced.
I couldn’t believe a man from his family and position could be so friendly, polite, and down–to–earth. The Kenways had incredible education!
They were even more likable to

If we weren’t parting ways, I would’ve called Edward right then to correct his judgment on Soren. He was not

This trip to Beaumont had given me several months‘ worth of work. It took my mind off remembering Edward and Maddison’s mess.
I worked overtime, dedicating all of my attention to my designs. It wasn’t until I woke up the next day that my phone’s planner reminded me of what today was.
Our divorce.
Right. It was time.
I washed up and called Edward, but Maddison picked up.
“Why are you calling him?” she asked bluntly, her voice thick with jealousy.
Oh, crap.
“Before you start assuming, no, I’m calling him to remind him about our divorce. It’s today, 2:00 p.m. Tell him to be there on time.”
“Divorce?!” she exclaimed.
“Duh. You really think you’re his wife just because you stole my wedding? Nah. We’re still civil partners in the eyes of the law. You’re just the extra for now,” I taunted
I expected Maddison to be too stunned by my jab to respond, but she retorted, “In the eyes of relationships, though, the one who’s been abandoned is the extra.”
