“Why wouldn’t he like you? You’re amazing! You inspire so many people at the company. Besides, why wouldn’t Mr. Young fall for you when someone as incredible as Mr. Kenway already has?”
“Thanks for the compliment, Cherry. But no matter how much you try to butter me up, I won’t be giving you any extra bonuses.” I deflected the topic again and handed her the signed documents.
“I won’t be in the office this week, so I need you to follow up with Jamie on the fashion show. Send me a soft copy of the proposal when it’s done.”
“Got it. Take care of yourself, Tay–Tay. I’ll be off now.”
“Okay.”
Once Cherry left, I continued to mull over Jamie‘ usual attitude toward me, but nothing specific came to mind.
One thing was certain, though–I needed to avoid being alone with him in the future.
I had worked hard to recruit such an excellent manager, and I valued him greatly.
I hoped he could continue helping me for many more years, allowing me to focus on my designs without worrying about the company’s operations.
Later that evening, Ace contacted me to remind me that the second trial was coming up in two days.

I had blocked him long ago, so he called from an unknown number.
I wanted to hang up as soon as I heard his voice, but he stopped me. “Relax, I’m not calling to start a fight. I just… I just want to talk… peacefully.”
His tone was soft, tired.

I didn’t think there was anything left to discuss.
“The one thing you’re most looking forward to… Our annulment.”
I snickered. “What’s left to talk about? The trial’s in two days. I suggest your save whatever you have to say for the judge.”
He didn’t respond immediately.
After a brief silence, he asked, “Would you cry for me if I died, Taylor?”
I frowned.
What was that supposed to mean? Was he terminally ill or something?
“Yes, I’d cry tears of joy,” I replied without hesitation.
Edward chuckled. “Do you really hate me that much?”
I didn’t want to hear him rant about something so pointless, so I got annoyed and cut to the chase. “I’ll hang up if there’s nothing else.”
“Wait.” He stopped me again.
After a moment of hesitation, he finally relented. “If I drop the appeal, will you settle Edith’s case?”
I laughed, my voice sharp with sarcasm. “So you’re backing down now? I thought you’d sacrifice your own sister for your principles.”
Edward stayed silent, but I could picture the storm darkening his face.
“Tell me, Edward… What’s the point of all this? Just to spite me? You’ve thrown away your sister’s future for it.”
“I couldn’t accept it,” he said coldly, bitterness edging his words. “I couldn’t accept how easily you moved on after all the years we had together… or that you’re already chasing someone else.”
