Soren approached with steady steps and stopped in front of us. His sharp features were calm, betraying no emotion. Yet, his silence carried an intensity that made anyone uneasy.
“You still haven’t answered my question, Mrs. Kennedy,” he said, fixing his gaze on Sally once more.
Sally’s lips trembled.
After a long pause, she forced a smile and attempted to play nice. “Mr. Kenway… When my family and I attended your mother’s birthday party, I had a lovely conversation with her. She kept telling me how much she hopes that you ”
“Have you been so overwhelmed lately that you’re misremembering things, Mrs. Kennedy? I don’t recall you ever being so close with my mother, but I do remember you and your daughter being a significant embarrassment to yourselves.”
Soren exposed Sally’s lie without hesitation.
The Kennedys‘ expressions shifted in shock as they turned to Sally.
“What does he mean, Sally? Didn’t you say Mrs. Kenway adores Edith and was even considering—‘
“Oh! You must have misheard me!” Sally quickly denied it. “I was talking about another Mrs. Kenway, not Lisbeth Kenway!”
Sally seemed nervous, stealing several glances at Soren as she spoke.
I observed the scene with quiet amusement from the sidelines.
Sally had deliberately brought Edith to Lisbeth’s birthday party, hoping to catch Soren’s attention and secure a place in the Kenway family through marriage.
However, her plans had backfired spectacularly. Unbeknownst to her, I had also attended the party, and the evening ended in disaster for them, leaving Edith’s reputation in tatters.
This explained why Edith had tried to drug me. Her motive wasn’t merely to help Edward trap me into staying with the Kennedys–she had sought revenge.
She must have despised me for humiliating her at the party. Perhaps she even believed that if I were ensnared by the Kennedys, Soren would never consider me, leaving her with a chance to win him over.
The absurdity of her reasoning made me laugh.
Turning to Sally, I spoke bluntly. “As I see it, you were infatuated with Mr. Kenway and his family’s status. You orchestrated Edith’s attempt to seduce him, hoping she could secure a place in his family, didn’t you?”
Soren frowned and turned toward me.
Sensing he was about to snap, I quickly added, “But of course, that’s just your wishful thinking. I’m sure Mr. Kenway’s standards aren’t that low.”
Soren’s face softened, and he even smiled a little.
On the other hand, Sally was furious. “That’s enough, Taylor! Who are you calling low?!”
I had initially planned to vent my frustration by giving Sally a hard time, but I chose not to once Soren arrived. Not wanting to complicate things for him, I decided to end the battle then and there.

“She’s already suffered enough because of what she did. Are you really going to send her to prison to make her suffer even more?”
