Chapter 304
Chapter 304
I didn’t see Soren off. I only called out from my room, “Okay!”
After he left, I stepped into the now–empty living room. In my mind, I watched the scene unfold from a third- person perspective. I could see how hard it had been for us to part.
Oh God, that was so embarrassing!
I had never felt that passionate with Edward, not even once. Never!
With Soren, though… He usually appeared so gentlemanly, controlled, and mild when we were together. He looked like a straight–laced, polite young man.
Who would have thought he had a different, hungrier side to him?”
This should teach me never to judge a book by its cover.
The next morning, while I was in a meeting, my phone beeped. The message I received surprised me.
Soren: [I’m on a business trip, Tay.]
Huh?! Since when did he suddenly have a business trip to take?!
I remembered how close we had come to being intimate the night before, and it hit me. Something felt off.
Almost sleeping with me and then vanishing the next day? That was straight out of a fuckboy’s playbook!
It came so out of nowhere, I couldn’t help but reply: [Are you running away?!]
Soren: [No, of course not! Just an emergency, that’s all. I’ll be back once it’s done.]
I was skeptical at the time.
I didn’t know it then, but many years later, while we were lounging on the couch, I’d bring this up.
In the future…
Lord Soren finally admitted he had been avoiding me. “I… didn’t know how to face you after that almost–incident. I was worried you might think I was just a pervert after your body…”
I sat up from his chest. “Are you serious?! You’re rich! If that’s the kind of person you were, you could have easily picked up any hot girl from a queue of women wanting to sleep with you!”
“I’m not that kind of man,” he said firmly.
“I know, I know! I’m just saying.”
“I was worried that… if I stayed in Metropolis, I might want to come to your house again the next day. And then… Well, I wouldn’t stop at the couch.
“So I thought I should go on a business trip far enough to calm down for a few days. We might have been moving too fast at that time. I needed to slow things down and… give you more room to adjust to us,” he explained.
He was always so considerate of me. Every thought and action he took showed how much he valued and respected
- me.

Unfortunately, Soren’s plan to calm himself through distance didn’t work,
Absence made the heart grow fonder, and three days away from me only made him miss me more.
The restraint he had tried to build had crumbled.
The hunger in his eyes made it clear: he wanted to devour me right then and there, even on the street.
I was just as entranced by him. I ran to him. It wasn’t until I saw Michael standing by his side that I realized something. “You guys came straight from the airport?”
“Mm–hmm.” Soren nodded.
“You’re almost done with work, so I thought we could have dinner together.” His eyes gleamed as he opened the door. “Get in.”
Admittedly, I was a bit… affected, too, simply because I hadn’t seen him in a few days. But with the driver and Michael there, I figured he couldn’t do anything.
I hesitated for a moment. “Um… I can’t. Jeannie got sick these past two days. I told her I’d visit after work”
Søren stared at me, and I saw the disappointment in his eyes.
My resolve wavered. But I couldn’t just stand my friend up because my incredibly hot boyfriend was back! In the end, I chose to have my cake and eat it too. “How about I visit Jeannie first and then talk to you “Alright.” He sighed. “I’ll head back to my office. There’s something I need to work on.”
“Sounds good.”
after?”
And then we both stood there, neither of us moving.
I met his gaze, recognizing the longing in his eyes. My cheeks warmed. I went to hug him.
He embraced me, burying his face in my shoulder.
