Chapter 308
“No” I screamed, covering my mouth as I dodged his kiss
“What’s wrong?”
“I haven’t brushed my teeth—and I look like a slob!”
I bolted back inside to the bathroom to freshen up.
Soren set the breakfast on the table and leaned against the doorframe, watching me.
I stared at him, my mouth full of foam,
He smiled.
“Canf your not look! atf mfe?!” I protested.
He didn’t budge.
Growing more self–conscious, I shoved him out of my room.
By the time I finished, he had unpacked the tiffin carrier, laying out an inviting spread of continental breakfast.
This is quite the feast. Please tell me you’re eating with me,” I said, smiling as I took my seat.
I could get used to having such a boyfriend. In over six years of dating Edward, I’d never experienced anything like
this.
“I already ate, thanks. You should enjoy it while it’s hot.”
“This is too much for one person!” I said, grabbing an extra set of utensils. “Join me, at least!”
I sat down and started eating. “So, how’s your grandfather? I wanted to ask last night, but I figured you might be busy taking care of him.”
It was the truth.
Soren took a bite of pancake. “It’s nothing serious. My grandfather’s in his 80s. His old injuries from his time as a soldier act up when the weather turns cold. But luckily, our doctor lives with us. He should be fine.”
That’s good.‘

Should I ask about what I was thinking last night?
Soren studied me as if he had something to say too.
I smiled. “What?”
He grinned sheepishly. “So… I was thinking… I’d like you to meet my grandfather. Soon.”
Oh, still about this?
Straight to hard mode, then.
“I spent most of my childhood with Grandpa. He taught me more than my parents combined, and he’s always wanted me to be in a relationship. Well, now that I finally have the girl I—”
I got it. Of course, he’d want me to meet someone that important to him. But my schedule was packed.
“Tomorrow’s the opening of Edith’s case. Next week, I have to go to Medhelanon. And when I get back, I’ll have

even more to do.”
Soren’s face fell.
I reconsidered. “How about Sunday?”
His eyes lit up. “Sunday?”
“Yeah. I can squeeze out some time.”
Not exactly true. I still had to finalize our agenda and make sure the clothes we were showcasing were perfect. I really needed to be there.
But Soren had brought this up twice now. I couldn’t keep putting him off.
“Yes, Sunday.”
Soren beamed, looking genuinely excited.
