Chapter 321
I was speechless.
Thankfully, Soren hadn’t actually done that. If he had, I wouldn’t have been able to face Jamie when I returned to the office–unless, of course, I found myself a new managi
At that thought, I muttered regretfully, “I shouldn’t have td you that if I’d known how you’d react. It’s not like there’s a big chance I’ll run into your friend again, and you wouldn’t have known about it anyway…”
“Excuse me? Were you saying something?
“I said I finally found one of your flaws… You’re petty and alous!” I turned to face Soren, enunciating each word deliberately just to provoke him.
Instead of getting angry, he simply smiled and said, “I’m sure I have plenty more flaws. You’ll discover them sooner or later.”
“Why not just tell me now so I can avoid them?”
“Nope, not a chance.”
Our childish banter continued until even we couldn’t take ourselves seriously anymore.
“Alright, enough of that. Time to take you home.” Soren changed the subject effortlessly, planning my schedule for the next day. “We’ll check out the car tomorrow morning, and I’ll drive you back to your office afterward.”
I decided not to backtrack since we’d already agreed on it over the phone.
On the way, Soren reminded me that it would be Saturday the day after tomorrow.
I was stunned for a moment before realizing what was happening. We were supposed to visit the Kenway residence to meet William Kenway.
“Yes, I remember. How’s his recovery going? Are you sure won’t interrupt him by visiting?” I asked.
In truth, I was still reluctant to go and was trying to fish for an excuse.
“He’s much better, and I’m sure you won’t be interrupting him. He enjoys being around young people and is always eager to learn new things.”
1 nodded, understanding what he meant. “So, what you’re saying is that he doesn’t want to live like an old man.”
“Exactly.”
The more I thought about it, the more uneasy I felt. But at this point, I couldn’t find a valid excuse to refuse.
Soren dropped me off downstairs, but I didn’t let him come up.
It was already past 10:00 p.m., which was late, especially since he needed another hour to return to the Kenway residence.
Just as I stepped out of the car, he pulled me back in, leaned over, and kissed me before saying goodnight with a
smile.
I shot him a playful glare as I shut the door and jogged toward my entrance.
Once inside the elevator, I was alone in the silence.
That’s when the troubles in my life began to flood my mind like persistent flies.
Chupter 121
My anger bolled when I thought about my “dear fatlier.”
If I weren’t Soren’s girlfriend, I would’ve fought them to the bitter end without a second thought–dragging them down with me, consequences be damned.
But the facts were what they were, and I couldn’t afford tot recklessly now.
I was afraid that the public would magnify my problems, tuning into yet another scandal that could also affect
Soren.
1 racked my brain, trying to figure out how to deal with those parasites.
With a soft chime, the elevator arrived, and the doors slid appen.
As I stepped out and glanced down the hallway, my already rritated mind took another blow when I saw who was waiting for me.
I glared at Edward, who sat in his wheelchair. “What are you doing here? You know you’re not welcome.”
His attitude matched mine. With a mocking tone, he said, “Don’t you think it’s only natural for me to visit my ex after everything we’ve been through?”
Golly! The nerve of him! How could he say something so shameless?!
But then, something suddenly clicked in my mind as I looked at him.
“The villa hasn’t been transferred yet. Let me know when you’re free so we can finalize it.”
I had meant to bring it up when Edith’s case went to trial, but he hadn’t shown up to support his sister in court.
At the time, I assumed his health had worsened, making it impossible for him to be there.
But now, seeing him show up at my doorstep, it seemed he wasn’t as frail as I’d thought.
