God, just my rotten luck! I had spent my precious day fighting with the Joneses, and now I still had to face a Kennedy in the evening! Someone should call an exorcist because I was sure these two families wer trying to possess me!

I scanned the room and added, “And don’t you know what kind of people attend this party? Even if you’re fine with ruining your own reputation, maybe you should at least try to preserve your family’s.”
“Oh, sure, because you give a damn about our family’s reputation! You probably wish it was all fucking ruined!” Edith retorted, once again ignoring my genuine attempt to remind her.
I sighed. I really wasn’t in the mood to continue this.
Unfortunately, Edith wasn’t finished.
She started yelling, “Do you even know who this bitch is?! She’s Taylor Jones! She sent her own father to prison! She voided her civil partnership with my brother, caused his old disease to flare up, and set me up to be assaulted -and now my life is fucking ruined!
“Ed is still in the hospital! I had to get an abortion! Her father got so sick in prison, they let him out on compassionate release, only for this bitch to refuse to pay for his treatment!
“After all the disgusting things she’s done, she still managed to charm an upstanding, super–elite family like the Kenways, and now she’s gloating in front of you all! Who does she think she is?!”
I let her rant on and on. Honestly, these stories had been circulating online for so long they felt like old news at this point.
To my surprise, people were starting to stand up for me.
“Why didn’t you mention your brother’s role in all of this? He’s the one who had an affair! And you’re the one who tried to set her up with drugs first! Everyone knows the Joneses treat their own like shit!”
“Spare us your lies, Miss Kennedy. Mr. Kenway isn’t a fool. He wouldn’t have fallen for her if she were as bad as you’re making her out to be! Honestly, you should be ashamed for ganging up on her!”
Edith was clearly taken aback by the sudden outpouring of support.
She froze, her face reddening as panic set in. “What the hell?! My brother was just trying to be kind to someone in need back then! He didn’t abandon her! It was always just temporary!
“And I didn’t want to set her up to be a victim! I just hated how she and my brother hadn’t had sex after being together for so long! If they did, why would they still want to split?! I did nothing wrong!”
I slapped my forehead. Oh God, was Edith trying to ruin me or build up my reputation?
“So Taylor’s still a virgin?!” someone asked, and I winced.
I hated having my private matters discussed by people I didn’t know, so I cut through the growing chatter by addressing Edith directly. “What do you want, Edith? Just get to the point!”
She leered at me, her expression twisted with fury.
“What do I want? What do I want?!” she bellowed. “I want to ruin everything you have!”
