Chapter 355
We were only a few feet apart, but it felt like an uncrossable chasm between us.
That was when I realized Edith had made the right move. She hadn’t inflicted any physical harm or me–she’d damaged the Kenways‘ opinion of me.
Maybe Lisbeth now saw me as more trouble than I was worth.
Soren waved and beckoned me to the car after his call.
I stayed put. “Go home soon, Soren. I’ll take an Uber.”
Sending me home and then back to the Kenway residence would take two hours, but Lisbeth might still be waiting for him at home.
Soren’s expression darkened slightly. “I’m not in a hurry. I’ll send you home.”
“I’m really fine,” I insisted again, nudging him toward the car. “Go.”
His displeasure deepened. This time, he simply picked me up and put me in the car, whether I wanted it or not.
Halfway into our journey, his phone rang.
I glanced at the screen–it was his grandfather.
Shit. Even his grandfather knew now.
“Hello? Yes. I’m on my way. Half an hour, minimum. Yeah, I’ll do my best to be home soon. I’m fine, Grandpa. Relax and rest. I’ll see you tomorrow morning. Right, I will.”
When the call ended, I said, “You can drop me here. I can easily hail an Uber.”
“I’m not in a hurry.”
“Your grandfather’s sick, right? You can’t keep making him worry! You should get home so he can finally rest after knowing you’re okay!”
I was sure he knew his grandson was with me. It was the only reason he hadn’t returned by now. As a good, understanding girlfriend–and to leave a good impression I should let Soren go home first.
Soren frowned, clearly hesitant.
I tapped the driver’s headset. “Sorry to trouble you, but can you stop by the roadside?”
The driver, one of Richard’s men, knew who had the authority. He glanced at Soren through the rearview mirror. ” Shall I, Mr. Kenway?”
“Yes!” I answered quickly before turning back to Soren. “You don’t need to send me home. Just go back to the Kenway residence, okay? See you tomorrow.”
I tapped the headset again as Soren remained silent. With no objection from him, the driver pulled over.
I got out of the car just as Soren did from the other side.
“Taylor!” he called out.
I turned.
I could feel the longing for a man like him, but I realized I had been nothing but trouble for him.

I watched him approach and forced a smile. A sudden impulse surged through me, and I started, “Soren, maybe we
“I’ll come to your place early tomorrow morning. Please don’t make any more excuses,” he interrupted.
“But after what happened tonight, do you really-”
“It wasn’t your fault. And what does that have to do with your visit to the Kenway residence tomorrow?”
Well, it had everything to do with it!
But I supposed I had to show up in person to apologize to Lisbeth for dragging her children into all this. If I didn’t, I’d be the one lacking sincerity and self–awareness.
