“Good morning, Madame Kenway. I’ve had a lot on my plate by the end of the year, so I haven’t found the time to visit. Sorry about that!”
Lisbeth stiffened. “Madame?‘ You’re still calling me that?
Stunned, I shot a glance at Soren for help.
He moved closer and interlaced his fingers with mine. “You should be calling her ‘Ms. Lisbeth‘ by now.”
His actions made it clear that our relationship had changed
Lisbeth’s lack of objection only reinforced that..
I couldn’t believe it. If she had accepted me as her son’s girlfriend, why hadn’t she even asked about me last night? Even out of simple courtesy?
Was I overthinking this? Had I misunderstood her? Or was Lisbeth simply too skilled at concealing her true thoughts?
This wasn’t the time for speculation.
I quickly greeted her, “Alright, Ms. Lisbeth.”
She smiled warmly. “Now that’s more like it! Come, take a seat.”
Soren gave my arm a slight tug, as if urging me to relax.
“Last night must have scared you, didn’t it? I can’t believe Miss Kennedy would do something like that. She seemed like such a decent girl the last time I saw her at my birthday. It’s hard to imagine her capable of such cruelty. God, the Kennedys‘ youngest generation will be their ruin.”
“I’m fine, and it’s all thanks to Soren’s heroism. I never would have escaped without him! I was really horrified… What if Soren had been hurt? And Sol… I feel so guilty about her injury,” I replied honestly.
I had long learned that women from elite families had a knack for spotting anyone who was putting on a show, so I decided to be sincere.
“I agree. I was also anxious,” she said, her expression darkening slightly.
“This was my fault. I didn’t resolve the issue properly, and now Soren and Sol have been dragged into it.”
“Nah, she’s the nutcase!” Soleil interjected. “You can’t blame yourself for what that crazy lady did!”
“Sol!” Lisbeth snapped, casting her a sharp look. She was probably upset by Soleil’s choice of words.
“Ugh, I’m just spitting facts here,” Soleil muttered under her breath.
Lisbeth turned to Soren and me. “How do you plan to resolve this?”
I was about to answer when Soren spoke first. “The law. We’ll do it the legal way.”
“Hmmm. That would make us the Kennedys‘ enemies, though.”
“Are you worried about damaging our relationship with the Kennedys‘ elders?” he asked.
Edward’s grandparents were still alive, and they were the reason Sally and Edith could even attend Lisbeth’s birthday party.

The Kenways and the Kennedys had been friends for generations, but as the Kennedys declined and the Kenways rose, the younger generations had grown distant.
Edward had even complained about Soren stealing his business.

“I spoke with Grandpa about this last night,” Soren said. “He agreed that we should take the legal route. He believes the Kennedys are facing these crises because they failed to properly educate their children. If that’s the case, they deserve some education before they cause even more trouble.”
