Chapter 378
Jean turned to Soleil. “So… does your mother also prefer Candy?”
Soleil pursed her lips.
“Not exactly. But if you compare their overall qualities…” she trailed off, cautious of my feelings.

I was Her meaning was clear. Between Candy and me, aside from our height and looks, I had few advantages, clearly at a disadvantage in terms of career achievements, family background, and even how close our families were to the Kenways.
“What about you, Sol?” Jean asked bluntly. “Who do you prefer? Who would you want as your sister–in–law?”
“Taylor, of course!” Soleil answered without hesitation. “I don’t like Candy. She’s too fake, and I had a bad feeling about her the moment I met her. That’s why I don’t bother talking to her when she visits.”
I felt a surge of gratitude. “Thank you, Sol. I appreciate your support–and for telling me all this.”
But Soleil frowned, worry clouding her expression. “You absolutely can’t let my brother know I told you. If he finds out, I’m dead. He’ll skin me alive!”
Jean chuckled. “Why tell us all that if you’re so scared of your brother?”
Soleil pouted and muttered, “Because knowledge is power! At least now Taylor knows where my family stands, and she can be prepared. My brother would never tell her any of this. He’s afraid Taylor will break up with him if he does!
I forced a laugh, hiding the heaviness in my heart. “And you’re not worried that telling me will make me want to break up with him?”
“I don’t think you will,” Soleil said smugly. “Who would give up on a great guy like him so easily? Besides, you’re not th
the type to back down when things get tough. I believe you’ll fight for this.
“But my brother is too caught up in it all. He cares too much, and it clouds his judgment. He won’t take any risks, so he’d rather not tell you.”
Jean gave her a thumbs–up. “You’re sharp, Sol. I like you. Alright, lunch is on me today!”
I immediately interjected, “No, it’s on me! I want to celebrate having such amazing friends!”
Soleil grinned. “You’re the only one I’ll ever recognize as my sister–in–law, Taylor. Please keep fighting alongside my brother!”
“I will. I’ll do my best.”
I may have said it out loud, but I truly meant it.
At that moment, I had no intention of backing down. I wanted to stand by Soren until the end.
That was the only way I could live up to all the years he’d waited for me and all the effort he’d put into our relationship.
As we parted ways after lunch, Soleil clung to my arm and reminded me one last time, “You absolutely cannot tell my brother a word about this, or I’m doomed, Taylor!”
