As I held my phone tightly to my car, Soren’s deep, soothing voice filled my heart like a warm current, Intensifying the longing that had been building inside me.
As I gazed out the window, I recalled the couple I’d just sech passionately kissing and blurted, “I just saw a couple kissing openly in the streets, and it made me miss you so, so much…”
I couldn’t see his face, but I sensed his breathing quicken, and my own heart began to race.
I couldn’t believe I’d actually said something so mushy out loud. But I couldn’t help it… The words had just slipped out.
“Taylor… Taylor…” he kept softly repeating my name.
I could feel his excitement, imagining how desperately he wished he could grow wings and fly to me that very
moment.
I wanted to see him just as much, but Candy’s words echoed in my mind, and reason slowly tempered my impulse.
“Soren, listen,” I said. “You shouldn’t come here. I’m going to be swamped over the next few days. Even if you came, I wouldn’t have time for you, and you’d only end up distracting me. Understand?”
didn’t want the Kenways to think I’d stolen Soren’s heart and turn me into their enemy. Yet, I knew that telling him so directly would only fuel his determination to fly over.
As such, I used work as my excuse–and it wasn’t entirely a lie. My schedule was packed. Our brand was set to open the show, and it was only a couple of days away.
“I won’t disrupt your work,” Soren pleaded gently. “I can just carry your bags.
“Sorry. I still can’t let you come.”
“But you just said you missed me,” he pressed.
“We’ve been apart for days. Of course I miss you. I’ll head home the moment my work is wrapped up,” I reassured
him.
I mentally ran through my schedule and added, “I should be back by the sixth day of the festival.”
“But I’ll be back at work by the time you get here, too…”
I frowned silently, knowing he was right.
By the time our call was ending, I had arrived at the hotel. Theard faint background noise from his side, probably someone looking for him.
I used the opportunity to say, “I’ve arrived at my hotel. I’ve got a lot of stuff to carry up, so go ahead and do whatever you need to first.”
“Alright. I’ll video call you later.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up, I called out to Cherry, who was in the front passenger seat, and we got out of the car together.
Inside the elevator, she leaned over curiously and asked, “Thy–Tay… why don’t you want Mr. Kenway to come here? I know you’ve got a lot of work to do, but you still have to eat and sleep, right? You’d at least have those times to spend with him.”

She wiggled her eyebrows playfully, clearly implying something more intimate.
I shot her an amused glance and teased, “You may look inccent, but I’m starting to realize there’s a pretty complicated mind hiding in that head of yours, Cherry.”
“That’s not true! I’m a really innocent girl!” she protested.
Feeling suddenly lightheaded, 1 leaned back against the elevator wall and said quietly, “I’ll have to get used to living without him eventually… Maybe not now, but definitely one day. I’m treating this as practice.”
Cherry turned to me, her brow furrowed in confusion. “What are you talking about? Are you drunk?”
“Maybe a little,” I murmured.
Back in my room, I washed up quickly and went straight to bed.
Ever since arriving in Medhelanon, I’d been struggling to sleep, and Candy’s recent comment had only made it
worse.
The more time passed, the more I realized how deeply I loved Soren… and how terrified I was of losing him.
I used to think we’d share a passionate love and then part gracefully when the time come, burying the memories deep.
But now I knew I couldn’t do that.
I would be devastated when we had to part, And it would hurt far more than the time Edward cheated on me.
