“Where else could I be staying?” Soren asked sweetly, winding. “You don’t want me here?”
My face flushed. I turned away from him. “I don’t care! You can sleep in the barn, and I wouldn’t give a damn!”
He followed me and grabbed my hand. “I’d sleep on the street if it meant I could have you next to me.”
“I’m not doing that with you!” I protested, trying to pull my hand free.
He pressed closer, wrapping his arms around my waist.
We were so close I could smell pine forest and musk, a strong scent of male pheromones that would have made any woman blush.
Suddenly, I couldn’t summon my usual indignation. It dawned on me just what kind of person he really was.
Soren was the type who hid his strength and assertiveness behind the skin of a soft–spoken gentleman. Even the smallest hint of that other side of him was enough to make you cower.
At that moment, rejecting him seemed unthinkable.
His arm was firmly forcefully–around my waist, and I felt like my whole life was caught in his grip. My usual girlboss” attitude couldn’t help me now.
Once we entered the elevator, Soren got straight to the point. “Pack your things. You’re coming with me to the top floor.”
I blinked in confusion. The top floor?”
“Mm–hmm. That’s where the presidential suite is.”
Of course. There was no way Lord Soren would stay in any regular room. He had to sleep in the most luxurious, royal suite in the entire hotel.
Well, Jean had a place to stay now, but on the other hand, I was about to get an earful of teasing.
“But Jeannie is here,” I protested weakly. “This can’t be good.”
He scoffed. “She’s not a child. She knows just as well as you do, so drop the act.”
I hit him in the chest. “What act?! I wasn’t acting!”
He laughed. “I’ll come with you, then. That way, she can focus all her energy on me instead ”
Great. So, he even knew what kind of conversation was coming
Soren followed me to my room.
I called Jean once we were outside. “Hey, Jeannie? Are you asleep?”
She heard me outside and opened the door instantly. “Thank God you’re here. Why don’t you just-”
She stood there in nothing but a robe and a moisturizing mask. Seeing Soren, she yelped and slammed the door shut.
“How could you not tell me you’ve got someone with you? she wailed from inside.
“I was calling you because I wanted to tell you to put on some actual clothes!” I laughed. “I didn’t know you’d just open the door like that!”

Her wall was loud enough that Soren pretended to cough and turned away.
“What? You’re the one who wanted to come with me,” I muttered.
A few moments later, Jean opened the door again, this time in a more presentable outfit.
“Sorry to keep you waiting,” she said, already brimming with snark.
She leaned in close and whispered, “What the hell is going on? Why is he here? Are you two staying here tonight?!”
I shot her a warning look. “Hell no!”
“Oh, I wasn’t thinking anything, Tay. Tee hee.”
“Um, I’m here to keep her company while she packs,” Sore added unexpectedly.
What?! I wasn’t ready for him to admit that yet!
Jean shot him a glance and grabbed my arm.
“Ohhh.” The way she dragged out the “oh” felt ominous. “So you’re abandoning me for a man.”
