Chapter 409
After what we’d done, Soren suddenly found it easy to help me shower.
I was the one who couldn’t bear to look at him, my mind replaying everything that had happened earlier.
I knew it had been too short. It couldn’t have satisfied him, could it? But he knew my wrists were hurting. It was my first time, and I still had work the next day. Thus, he went back to being Gentleman Soren.
It was only when I was drifting off to sleep, his warm breath brushing past my ear, that I heard him whisper in a low, gravelly voice, “I’ll let you off the hook this time. Wait until we’re back home. You’ll see how I make you pay me back with interest.”
My body melted into the bed.
I was still feeling shy the next morning. I barely spoke.
Meanwhile, Soren was in a great mood. Every time he looked at me, his face lit up with a doting smile.
I tried my best to appear calm, though my heart was racing.
My wrists were still swollen from the night before. They looked worse than they felt.
After he applied some ointment, he suddenly pulled out a pair of lace cuff bracelets that perfectly concealed the swelling.
The only issue was the… design.
“Is this the best of your fashion sense, Lord Soren?” I asked
“Pardon me?”
“I’m asking if this really matches your taste.”
“I don’t think I follow…” He paused, his embarrassment starting to bubble up. “They look bad, don’t they? I forgot you’re a fashion designer with an eye for these things. We should probably take them off.”
He reached to remove them, but I ducked away from his hands.
“Nope. They look great on me,” I said, holding up my wrists. “I’m so beautiful that everything looks good on me.” He chuckled. “Come on. If they look bad, take them off! We can’t have people questioning your taste now.”
“I want them on my wrists!” I insisted.
Glancing at the time, I added, “We should go. Please be my knight again, Lord Soren.”
“Your wish is my command, milady,” he replied cheerfully, grabbing my bag and water bottle like a devoted attendant.
Jean rushed over to check on my injuries.
I held out my wrists. “They’ll be fine in two days. Trust me.”
She stiffened slightly. “Uh, who picked these out for you?”
I tilted my head toward Soren. “Guess.”
Jean let out a mechanical laugh. “I see. Very… avant–garde, Mr. Kenway.”

I snorted, then said firmly, “I genuinely love them. They look amazing.”
“I believe you,” she replied, though her smile faded into a frown.
“What?”
She leaned in and sniffed me exaggeratedly, then gave a sly grin. “Well, well. I’m picking up a man’s scent. So… he finally visited your secret garden last night?”
I froze. She could tell just by scent?! How was I supposed to respond to that?!
“Don’t be ridiculous. I was injured! How could he possibly wanna do that?”
“Well, you could’ve possibly wanted to do that.”
Damn. One really couldn’t hide anything from their best friend. I tried to deny it, cheeks burning, but she wouldn’t let it go.
Then, out of nowhere, she turned to Soren and asked, “So? Taylor’s even better than she looks, right?”
