“Do you need me there? I’m free!” Soren offered.
“No! If you’re here, things might escalate!” I replied.
The elevator doors opened with a ding just in time, and I added, “I’ll be working on this. I’ll call you again later. Don’t worry about it. My aunt is coming as well.”
“Okay. Be careful.”
“Will do.”
I stepped out of the elevator, and without needing to knock I walked straight in–the door was already open. Voices clashed from inside.
“You two should’ve been teaching her when her mom was still alive! Well, you did a mighty good job, didn’t you?” “Thanks, I know she turned out amazing. Any kid from our family could easily beat yours!”
“So, you’re an idiot and smug! I’ve never seen a daughter who sent her own father to prison and ruined her family! “Sally shouted at my aunt. “And now she has to make sure we die too! As if tormenting my daughter wasn’t enough! Now she’s using her new lapdog to go after us. What’s she so jealous of, huh?!”
I stepped into the unit. My grandmother’s face hardened.
Sally turned at the change in the atmosphere, her eyes widening when she saw me. “You’re back already?!”
I ignored her and rushed to my grandmother’s side. “Are you okay? Feeling any worse?”
She shook her head. “I’m fine. You shouldn’t be here, dear. She wants you here.”
“It’s fine. I have nowhere else to go. The Kennedys have really dug their own graves this time, though. She won’t get to act like this for long.”
I turned to Sally and said calmly, “You want me? Well, here I am. Let’s talk outside. If anything happens to my grandmother, you’ll regret it.”
Sally sneered, eyes narrowed. “Oh, so now you think you rule over us? You think you can fight us? You’re just abusing your power!”
I smiled. “Yes. Just like you did when I had no one backing me. Why are you so afraid of me doing the same thing to you?”
“Shut up, Taylor. Who was the one who took care of you after your mother died? You make us sound like bullies!” Sally barked.
“I’ve repaid all that kindness through your son. No reparation was ever made for the damage he caused,” I said calmly. “Do you know what your sweet baby boy did? He drugged me in Medhelanon, kidnapped me, and tried to rape me. And I didn’t even press charges against him.
“You should thank me for that. He could’ve been jailed in another country, and you never would’ve seen him again.

My grandmother and aunt stood frozen, stunned by the revelation.
“W–Why didn’t you tell us, sweetie?!” My aunt gasped, pulling me aside to inspect me. “Were you hurt? How did you get rescued? He didn’t do anything to you, right?”
“I’m fine. Soren found me just in time,” I replied.

The thick winter clothes covered the bruises around my wrists, and though my aunt looked confused, she seemed oddly reassured.
However, Sally was furious.
“See?! Soren even went abroad just for you! No one would be stupid enough to think you two just started out!” she screeched. “And you dare accuse my son of betraying you? You’re projecting!”
