Soren sat high above us all, yet he still nodded and smiled at me.
I felt as though I had been pulled back to life. I was in ecstasy.
1 flashed him my brightest, most grateful smile. I might have not obtained the bracelet, but I was happy that it had ended up with Soren.
“40,000,000 dollars! Going, going… Gobone!” the auctioneer screamed with such excitement that his voice broke. “The white nephrite bracelet is sold to Mr. Soren Kenway!
The crowd erupted into cheers and applause, turning their gaze toward the VIP box while Soren remained serenely in his seat like a king looking down on his subjects
A man stood next to him.
I overheard someone whisper, “That’s the boss of Swedbury, right?”
“Yeah, that’s him!”
“Who is this mysterious man? The boss is standing next to him like a servant!”
“It’s a Kenway, man. Kenways are like… They’re like royalty, man! You wouldn’t believe me even if I told you…”
I returned to my seat as the crowd’s chatter continued. Thoughts swirled in my mind.
Maddison was throwing a fit at Edward. She had truly thought the bracelet was hers, only for it to slip from her fingers.
Edward tried to pacify her, but he honestly just looked relieved. I was certain he couldn’t afford to pay 27,000,000 dollars, either.
The employee carefully removed the bracelet from its case and placed it in an elegant box.
I stared at the stage, waiting for Soren to take it.
I wondered… If my company could one day become big enough to generate that much money, maybe I could buy the bracelet from him.
But he didn’t show up. Instead, his assistant, Michael Kidd, appeared. I watched him walk toward me with the box, thinking he was going to pass me by.
I nodded at him as a greeting-
He stopped beside me, and I could feel admiration and envy radiating from Michael,
In the sudden silence, he announced, “Mr. Kenway has informed me that this bracelet is a gift to the fair Miss Taylor Jones.”
The crowd gasped in shock. Many leaped to their feet, staring at me.
Edward and Maddison were absolutely gobsmacked.
“What… What’s going on?” she stammered. “He’s just going to… give her a bracelet he bought for 40,000,000 dollars?!”
I was just as stunned, I couldn’t even speak.
“Miss Jones?” Michael whispered.

I gulped and shot a glance toward the VIP box.
It was empty now. Soren had left. As soon as he was seen–he vanished.
“L… I can’t, Mr. Kidd. This bracelet is t–too hefty a g–gift…

“It’s Mr. Kenway’s wish that you accept it, Miss Jones. If you have any questions, you should raise them to him personally,” Michael replied, pressing the box into my hands.
I had no choice but to accept it. My gratitude overwhelmed me. “Thank you! Thank you, Mr. Kidd! Please send my gratitude to him as well!”
“Definitely,” Michael replied with a smile before walking away.
I was drowning in the attention the attendees had lavished upon me.
The most enigmatic scion of the already mysterious powerhouse, the Kenways, had shown up out of nowhere, purchased a bracelet, and gifted it to a beautiful but unlucky young woman–one whom her own family had abandoned.
