“Is this really okay?” I asked.
“Of course, dear. The men in this family are all workaholics They never come home on time. If I waited for them. to eat, I would have starved a long time ago,” Lisbeth replied jokingly.
I flashed a smile and followed her to the dining room.
I could tell Remy had prepared the dishes Just from one taste alone!
“You can have as much as you like,” Lisbeth said with a side. “You must have worked really hard. I swear you’re thinner than the last time I saw you.”
“No, ma’am! I eat a lot!”
“I love that. Eating is one of life’s greatest pleasures!”
We chatted while eating, but part of me couldn’t help but listen for any noise from outside. I was waiting for him. Unfortunately, even after finishing lunch–with a stomach to show for it–he still hadn’t arrived. I felt despondent, but I dared not show it.
Lisbeth frowned. “That child stood us up! Something must have come up last minute. Gosh, whenever something goes wrong, he can end up working all night.”
I felt a pang. “That sounds rough. I really admire his work ethic, ma’am. Most people born into his position wouldn’t even care to work.”
Lisbeth sipped her tea. “It’s precisely because of his position that it’s so important for him to work hard. His dad and grandfather will lecture him endlessly if he doesn’t meet their standards.”
That made sense. A family that had managed to stay wealthy and powerful over generations likely had strict parenting and expectations.
I took a sip of my tea, then, sensing that Lisbeth might want to rest, decided to excuse myself. She offered to see me off, but I assured her it was fine.
I got into the car, and my smile faded.
I hadn’t gotten to see him. Somehow, it made me feel a little lost.
Wait, I shouldn’t be thinking like this! I told myself and turned my focus to the scenery.
Our limousine rounded a corner and suddenly slowed down.
Before I knew what was happening, the driver spoke up. “Miss Jones? Mr. Kenway’s car is right across from us.” My heart skipped a beat, and I turned quickly to look.
A familiar black Audi had stopped in front of us. Michael stepped out of the passenger side and opene door. 1

His figure blocked some of the sunlight from my eyes, but even so, I had to squint as I looked at him. He radiated a nearly blinding aura.
“Hello, Taylor,” he said in his signature composed and gentle manner.
He called me by my name. Not “Miss Jones,” but “Taylor.”
“I’m really sorry for being late. I wanted to have lunch at home, but something came up,” he explained, almost nervously.
I was stunned to receive an explanation from him. I didn’t deserve this! I was just a tailor, so…
Why was he rushing home just to dine with me? Just to see me?
