My vision blurred, but I could feel Soren freeze, an amused grimace on his face.
After a long pause, he finally spoke in a tone of disbelief. “What did you take me for? An organ dealer on the black market?”
“M–Maybe! How am I… supposed to know for real? You’re not normall Your mom’s not normal! You guys are just… so overtly nice to me for no reason. How’s a girl supposed to feel safe with some strangers‘ unconditional niceness?”
I shook my head and waved my hand. “Man, I’m scared!”
“So you think we’re nice to you because we somehow want your organs and blood? Is that why you suddenly put distance between us?”
I collapsed onto the couch. “N–Not… Not just that… It’s you. You’re too good at hypnotizing people… You’re dangerous!”
Soren smiled lovingly. “What did I do to earn that label? You’re the one who tried to force a kiss on me back in the car. I had to avoid you!”
“Me? Dangerous? I’m the least dangerous person ever… I’m a lamb! Everyone… Everyone bullies me!” I muttered, recalling my life story.
“Those days are over, Taylor. If you’d allow it… Let me protect you from now on.
“Why? Why are you so nice? Why do you want to protect me?” I asked.
He looked into my eyes and asked earnestly, “You really don’t remember me?” “You’re Soren Kenway! Mr. High–Above–Thee! You’re like a god among us mortals…” He sighed. “I can’t believe I thought you’d remember when you’re this drunk.”
I mumbled unintelligibly as he walked away. A moment later, he returned with a blanket. “You reek of alcohol, Taylor. I think you should sleep on the couch tonight,” he said.
His words sounded like the murmur of a mosquito. I ignored him.
He placed the blanket over me, pulling it up to my neck with meticulous care.
When he reached my shoulder, I suddenly opened my eyes and giggled. “You look so delicious. I feel like kissing you…”
He froze.
“Do… Do you want to try?” he asked.
Desires were natural. We all had them. And with my judgment clouded by alcohol, all I could act on was mine.
“Yes,” I replied.
I was back in the dream–the one where I kissed Soren. This time, it felt real. I was intoxicated by the taste and texture of it.

It seemed as though he’d finally set aside his reservations. large shadow loomed over me. The scent of pine and musk grew stronger from above…
