Chapter 99
I couldn’t do that with Richard there, though, could I?
Soren noticed my embarrassment. “Come on, almost all of our guests are here. The event is about to begin.”
He led me into the reception hall.
It was situated a short distance from the estate’s residential area, offering better privacy for the Kenways. The hall was housed in a three–story building. In addition to the reception area, there was a multifunctional conference room and an entertainment venue.
The decor was subtle yet classy as if everything had been taken from a world–renowned art gallery.
The hall was packed with guests, laughing and socializing. A quick glance revealed several high–ranking politicians I frequently saw on the news.
As soon as we arrived, Charles quickly whispered something in Soren’s ear.
I knew he was busy, so I said, “You should welcome the other guests too, Mr. Kenway. I’ll be fine.”
“In that case, excuse me. Enjoy yourself, alright? I’m sure there are some friends you know among the crowd.” “I’ll look for them. See you!”
He left, and Richard nodded at me before following him.
The Jones family may have treated me like I was effectively disowned, never taking me to any of these elite events, but I wasn’t at all intimidated.
I had won a few international fashion design contests before–award shows weren’t that different in terms of effect.
I spotted Lisbeth in the distance. She wore the first dress I made for her: a dark green evening gown with Victorian aristocratic elements.
The dress was form–fitting until it reached the waist, where it flared into a slight A–line shape. Lisbeth looked regal, stately, wise, and even a little younger.
She had combined a sautoir necklace with a swan brooch, and the two pieces now sat perfectly around her collar. Lisbeth noticed me at the same time. She waved, beckoning me over.
I scanned the women around her. They all appeared to be from high society as well.
I didn’t want Lisbeth to abandon her guests just to talk to me, so I waved back to let her know I was fine.
I found a seat and took it. Before I had even settled in, I heard a cry of surprise. “Why are you here?!”
I looked up, equally shocked. It was Edith–Edward’s sister
“What a coincidence,” I replied.
She glared at me. “They say you’ve gotten all chummy with the Kenways. I didn’t believe it, but look at you now.”
I smiled and replied, “And since when have the Kennedys been friendly with the Kenways? This is new too. I thought your brother had issues with them. Wouldn’t expect him to let you join.”
“Don’t make things up!” she snapped.

Another figure appeared. It was Sally, Edward’s mother.
“Mom! Look who’s here!” Edith called out as if she were the only one who had a right to be there.
Sally looked visibly surprised. “Taylor?”
