Chapter 7
The matter settled, and I boarded my flight abroad.
I made a call to my boss, asking if the resignation letter I submitted before my departure could be disregarded.
He was delighted, saying that since I had come to my senses and decided to stay and work hard, a promotion and raise would be arranged immediately.
After hanging up, I breathed a sigh of relief.
When I submitted my resignation, my mind. was filled with thoughts of giving up my career for Dylan Watson and the child, returning to his side and take care of the family.

Looking back, I can’t help but feel how foolish and pathetic I was.
But thankfully, I had regained my clarity and seen things for what they truly were.
Before boarding the plane, I picked up yet another call from Dylan Watson.
“Claire…”
“Don’t tell me you’re sorry, and don’t beg me for forgiveness. Those words will only make me sick.”
“I’m answering this call to tell you–sign the divorce agreement and leave everything behind.”
“You saw it with your own eyes. Don’t doubt yourself–the child on the table is yours, the

one you killed with your own hands.”
“I’m so sorry… truly sorry, Claire…”
“I… I really regret it…”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Regret, does it help? Will it bring my child back?”
“If it did, I’d regret never meeting you in the first place.”
With that, I decisively hung up the phone and blocked every form of contact from him.
Six months later, during a casual conversation with Evelyn Wilson, I heard about Dylan Watson’s current situation.

In the age of the internet, news spread quickly.
His investors pulled out with no hesitation and sued him for breaching the contract, demanding astronomical penalties.
Adulterer, scoundrel–these labels stuck to him tightly.
As a result, his name became mud, and his reputation was tarnished beyond repair.
No company would hire him. To pay off his debts, he had to take on lowly jobs, constantly ridiculed and scorned whenever someone recognized him.
After I left, he developed a drinking problem, always clutching that little glass bottle and calling my name when drunk.

He said he was wrong, begged me to come back, and asked for forgiveness.
He often asked our mutual friends about me, trying to contact me, even going so far as to come overseas to find me.
One time, drunk and out of control, he appeared in front of me, kneeling on the ground, crying and begging for my forgiveness, asking for another chance, lamenting how difficult his life was without
- me.
He hoped his misery would somehow tug at my heartstrings, just like before, when I softened and forgave him again and again.
But unfortunately for him, I won’t do that anymore.

After hearing this, I didn’t feel much pity for him. I only felt that everything he had suffered was his own doing.
I coldly wrote a few words and turned to leave without a second glance.
“Dylan Watson, you deserve this.”
I gazed up at the endless sky and let out a deep breath.
From now on, I would live for myself.
The End.

The day I finalized the divorce, I booked a train ticket back to my hometown.

My phone, ID card, and a bank card with little balance–these were all I had after all these
years.
The housekeeper called to tell me there were still some of my belongings left to be moved.
“Just throw them away. I don’t want them.”
He added that the young master was asking to see his mother.
“He’ll soon have a new mother, the one he’s always longed for.”
The son I gave birth to truly resembled his father.
Even the woman they loves was the same.
In the past, I would have felt hurt, wondering why that person couldn’t have been me.

But now, I thought, if he didn’t love me, then so be it–it is what it was.
Before the train departed, I said my final words into the phone.
“Tell him not to worry. I will never disturb him again, not in this lifetime.”
