Chapter 43
Evalia took a deep breath as Hugo approached. Before he could say a word, she jumped in, “Check out your receptionist. Couldn’t even recognize their own boss’s wife. Hugo, what’s up with your hiring process?”
The receptionist’s face went pale. This isn’t the Mrs. Hayes from the news. Wha’s going on? she wondered.
Hugo’s lips pressed into a thin line as he stared Evalina down. He grabbed her arm. “Come with me,” he ordered.
Evalina glanced back at the receptionist and security. “Next time, krep your eyes peeled. Don’t mistake any old stray for your boss lady Being Mrs. Hayes ain’t earned by just yapping a bit she shot back.
The receptionists all ducked their heads, too scared to say a word.
Hugo gave Evalina a rough push into the room. “You snapped a shot of me, Evalina?”
Evalina raised an eyebrow. “So what if I did: Back off from Walden, and maybe I’ll dish on it.”
Hugo smirked, a chill in his voice.” “You’d really take a swing at me over some guy!”
Evalina breathed deep, her lone steady. “You can think whatever. But if you keep messing
ssing with him, who knows what I might do
Hugo shrugged. “Fine, I won’t pull my investment. A woman like you ain’t worth the hassle. You end up with a guy like Walden, and you gotta plead for him. Look at your taste, Evalina.”
Evalina felt a twinge in her heart. “Guess I’m not so great at picking men,
Hugo let her go. “I thought you were something special, but you’re not. Picking on a loser like him is beneath me. You can chill now
Evalina didn’t argue. Herp

“Hand over the photo,” Hugo said, hand out.
Evalina swallowed hard, her eyes on him, trying to force a smile but failing.
Hugo’s anger flared again–there was no photo! “You lied to me!”
“No, I do have it. But it’s just… just not the photo you’re thinking about.” Evalina held up the photo.
Hugo saw it was lum, asleep in bed in the moming light
“Isn’t this a private photo too?” Evalina smiled.
Hugo’s anger surged as he took this as her another trick. “Are you looking for trouble?
Evalina tried to run, but Hugo, furious, pulled her back and pushed her onto the conference table, his strong body leaning down close to her
She shouted, “What do you want? Let me go, Hugol”
“Wanted a private photo, didn’t you? I can take one now,” he said fiercely,
Evalina didn’t want him to touch her again. How could a man do that to a woman he didn’t care about when he had someone he loved?
