5 Chapter 5
Damien stared in disbelief, suddenly remembering my words.
“What’s going on?”
The distant pack elders had just entered the den to see an old priestess from Elara’s even more remote maternal line yelling at Damien’s mother.
Seeing the distant elders, the old priestess felt more confident.
But the distant elders ignored her and went straight to Damien. “Alpha Damien, are you alright?”
The old priestess was surprised. “You… how do you know each other?”
Before the distant elders could reply, a stern–looking old wolf, the old priestess’s Chieftain, strode in and roughly pulled her out.
Damien wanted to get to the bottom of it. What did she mean, my Soul–Spark was in him?
But Damien’s mother stopped him, her face pale..
After a while, the old priestess and her Chieftain came back in.
The old priestess forced a smile and apologized to Damien and his mother. “Oh dear, I’m just an old fool, I got it all mixed up.”
“Young Alpha, please don’t be angry.”
The Chieftain tugged her arm. “Nephew–in–law, please forgive my muddle–headed sister for her rudeness just now. I apologize to your mother on her behalf.”
Then the Chieftain also apologized to Damien’s mother.
Damien didn’t understand why the old priestess had changed her tune so quickly.
He still wanted to ask, but one of the distant elders spoke up. “Alright now, be more careful in the future.”
“Even if Alpha Damien is family now, don’t push it too far.”
The old priestess looked strange when she heard that.
Seraphina had looked pale and worried since all this started, clutching the furs beneath her.
Now that things had calmed down, Seraphina finally felt safe enough to speak to Damien.
But Damien’s mind was racing.

He had no memory of any soul–bonding ritual.
When Elder Lyra mentioned it, he thought his mentor was just old and confused.
But for the old priestess to say it too… something was very wrong.
Damien gave a few curt replies to the distant pack members, then pulled his mother into his Alpha’s den.
“Mother, are you hiding something from me?” His golden wolf eyes pinned her.
Damien’s mother looked away. “Hiding what? Don’t overthink things.”
Seeing his mother wouldn’t talk, Damien decided he had to ask his mentor, Elder Lyra.
He tried again to reach me through our mind–link, but it was still like shouting into a void.
Damien couldn’t find Elder Lyra in the sanctuary.
A junior priest told him the Pack Chieftain had asked Elder Lyra to inspect the various protective wards, and she might be at Seraphina’s recovery den checking on her progress.
Damien immediately rushed over.
“Seraphina is so lucky. The Alpha went to such lengths to save you. We’re all so envious.”
Inside the den, a young healer was tending to Seraphina.
Elder Lyra looked at Seraphina, thinking her soul–aura felt a bit… muddled, but she couldn’t quite place it.
Damien burst into the den. “She’s not the future Luna! She’s my mate’s… kinswoman,” he corrected himself.
Seraphina’s face froze, and she bit her lip, saying nothing.
Everyone else looked confused.
Wasn’t the Alpha’s mate recovering from a Soul–Spark transfer ritual? How was she suddenly Seraphina’s kinswoman?
“My mate, Elara, has already left the pack. She was in a different den before,” Damien’s voice was a bit hoarse.
Hearing this, a young priest who was taking notes fumbled, and the hide scroll detailing Seraphina’s recovery clattered to the floor.
The Pack Chieftain shot the priest a very annoyed look, and the priest scrambled to pick it up.
Just as things were getting awkward, the door opened again.
5 Chapter 6
It was the distant pack elders and the old priestess with her Chieftain.
They saw the group of priests and figured they were checking on Scraphina.
So, the distant pack elder immediately stepped forward. “Elder Lyra, how is Seraphina doing
now?”
The old priestess followed close behind.
She had originally come to ask me for some rare herbs.
She’d been lurking around the outskirts of our pack for days but hadn’t seen me.
So, she contacted the distant pack, hoping to find me through them.
When she heard Seraphina had recovered “with my help,” she and her Chieftain hurried to the pack center.
She thought she’d definitely see me here.
As long as I was around, she knew she could get something from me.
Just as Elder Lyra was about to speak to the distant elder, she spotted the old priestess.
“Well, what a coincidence. Aren’t you from the kin of that little Moon–Touched girl with the twin Soul–Sparks? Elder Lyra’s memory was sharp.
“What are you doing here?”
