Chapter 15
Garrett responded with a low hum and immediately had Jared
arrange for a few obedient maids to come over that night.
When he returned to the master bedroom, Carlos was just
walking out.
Carlos was a doctor, and more easygoing than most. “I’ll head
out now. Her recovery will take time. Oh right, take her to the
hospital for a full check–up sometime.”
“Yep.”
Carlos had wanted to say more, but sensing Garrett’s mood
wasn’t great, he chose to leave quietly.
Garrett stood at the bedroom door for a moment, his fingers
resting on the handle. He hesitated for several seconds before
slowly pushing it open.
The lighting inside was dim. She had her eyes closed, looking
completely serene and tender.
He shut the door but didn’t approach the bed. Instead, he stood a
few steps away and simply watched.
Chapter 15
The warmth from the cup had turned her cheeks red, and her
eyelashes trembled as if she were trapped in a nightmare.
Garrett stood there for half an hour before finally turning off
the light. But he didn’t get into bed. Instead, he collapsed onto
the sofa by the window.
Adrienne felt as though she was engulfed in a sea of fire.
“Water…
“Garrett… get me some water…”
She mumbled groggily and then felt something cool pass
through her lips.
She sighed in relief as the burning sensation eased significantly.
The next morning, when she opened her eyes, she saw the
familiar ceiling and instinctively looked to the side.
No one was here last night. Over the past three years, she had
developed a habit of noticing these kinds of details.
An empty glass sat on the bedside table. She sat up quickly and
checked the time. It was nearly 6:30.
She still had to pick up Mr. Gibson.
Chapter 15
She rushed out of bed and freshened up, ready to head
downstairs, only to see Corinne sitting there reading the
newspaper.
“Corinne, why are you…”
Corinne usually disliked staying overnight anywhere. Why
hadn’t she gone back last night?
Seeing her come down, Corinne clutched her chest in
exasperation. “Do you know how scared you made me last
night? You fainted out of nowhere! Adri, how can you be so
careless with your health? You have to eat more this morning.”
“Corinne, I still have to go to work. I’m already running late!”
“What company is it? I’ll have Garry call your boss and get you
the day off!‘
Adrienne lowered her lashes and walked toward the entryway.
“No need. My boss treats me very well.”
“Adri! Hey, you haven’t even eaten breakfast!”
Then she turned and glared at Garrett. “What are you standing
there for? Go drive her to work!”
Adrienne had already changed her shoes, her expression soft.
Chapter 15
She didn’t even glance at Garrett. “Corinne, really, it’s okay. I’m
driving my boss’s car. I have to pick him up.”
Corinne grew more anxious. Her health was already fragile, and
she never ate breakfast. What if she fainted again?
She got so worked up, she gave Garrett a kick. “Why don’t you
go find out where she’s working? She’s never held a job before.
What if she’s being taken advantage of? Adri used to smile so
much. She’s been so quiet these past few years. It worries me
every time she leaves the house.”

So everyone had noticed that she didn’t smile much anymore.
Garrett sat there, a strange irritation bubbling inside him.
“Maybe you should get a DNA test. Maybe she’s your real
granddaughter!”
Corinne clutched her chest again and sank onto the couch. “You
always have to run your mouth, don’t you? No wonder Adri
doesn’t smile anymore!”
