Chapter 16
Garrett stood up, not bothering with breakfast. “Sure.
Everything’s my fault. I’m the one who forced her not to eat. Go
take a look at that room full of luxury goods. Every month’s
latest–season clothes, bags, and jewelry are worth millions. I’ve
never mistreated her. She’s the hostess, yet she can’t even
handle two maids? That just proves she’s not capable.”
As he adjusted his sleeves, he glanced at the table full of
delicious food. “Grandma, eat well. I’m heading to the office.”
Corinne had a splitting headache. She would have to talk to
Adrienne tonight. She needed to understand what was really
going on.
Once Garrett got in the car, he leaned back, faint dark circles
visible beneath his eyes.
Jared started the car, guessing that Garrett probably hadn’t slept
at all.
With his eyes closed, Garrett suddenly said, “Have someone
redo the fishpond at Greystone Estate. She doesn’t like the one
there now!‘
Chapter 16
“Yes, sir.”
“Any requests she has at Greystone Estate, fulfill them. If you
can’t reach me by phone, just take care of it.”
Sometimes he went on–site visits to remote areas, and his phone
might lose signal on rare occasions.
“I understand, sir. The renovation crew will be there soon.“”
Only then did Garrett nod, turning to gaze silently out the
window, lost in thought.
Adrienne arrived at Willard’s house twenty minutes late.
Dressed in a suit and tie, he mocked her, “Ever heard of calling
your boss when you’re late? What if I had an important
overseas meeting this morning? Can you afford that?”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Gibson.”
He was annoyed, but remembering the contract signed last
night, he got in the car. “Don’t let it happen again. If you don’t
want the job, plenty of others do.”
Adrienne was about to drive away when she saw a woman
appear from inside the villa. She looked about Willard’s age, and
the moment she saw Adrienne, her face twisted with anger.
Chapter 16
“Willard, who’s this?”
“My new assistant.”
The woman let out a bitter laugh. “So this is how little you even
bother to hide it now? Hiring someone this young and pretty?”
Her hair was a bit messy, and with a single stride, she reached
the driver’s window. Leaning through the open window, she
tried to grab Adrienne’s hair.
“You little tramp! Get out of the car!”
Adrienne quickly dodged and softly asked the man in the
backseat, “Mr. Gibson, shall we go now?”
Willard’s face showed a flicker of irritation.
“Drive.”
Adrienne quickly reversed, made a turn, and drove away.
The woman stayed where she was, clutching her hair and
screaming in frustration.
Adrienne glanced in the rearview mirror and saw the woman
squatting on the ground, crying. She didn’t ask.
At the office, Adrienne’s job mainly consisted of organizing

documents. There wasn’t much to learn. The rest of her work was to accompany Willard to various social functions.
At noon, Willard asked her to deliver some documents to the
Melendez Group.
He used to be a senior executive there and still had a couple of
friends inside. The documents concerned a recent investment
project. Those friends were investors too and needed to sign off.
Adrienne didn’t refuse. She took the documents and drove to
the Melendez Group.
It was her first time there. At the front desk, she asked for the
floor where the senior executives were.
The receptionist furrowed her brow. “Miss, you’ll need to make an appointment first. You can’t access the top floor without a
special card. I need permission to let you through.”
