Chapter 22
Blood immediately dripped from his palm. Seeing this, Bethany
was so terrified that her body shivered slightly.
She hastily grabbed some tissues. “What were you thinking?
Can’t you be more careful?”
Instead of taking the tissues, Garrett lowered his head and
pulled out the shards from his palm. More blood started to spill
over and formed a dark pool on the floor in no time. It hurt just
to watch.
While the others grew worried, Garrett stood up, saying
casually, “I’m going back.”
“Garry, you gotta deal with your wound. Infection is no joke,”
someone advised.
“Surely, you don’t want to get an infection, right? I’ll take you to
the hospital,” Bethany echoed.
She picked up the coat aside, standing up.
But Garrett had already stridden out. “No need. Jared’s waiting
for me outside.”
Chapter 22
“Garrett…”

She chased after him, unwilling to let him go just like this.
Meanwhile, Norman still sat on the sofa. Something told him
Garrett lost his cool because of Theodore.
It was so weird, since they’d never had any bad blood between
them.
Garrett had already left the bar.
Bethany caught up with him, choking out, “You’re bleeding a
lot, Garrett. And you wouldn’t go to the hospital? I’m worried
sick. Did Theodore pull some tricks again?”
Unlike the others, she didn’t think Theodore was a nice guy.
She met Garrett during his toughest time. Risking everything
for funding, he had once drunk himself into internal bleeding
during a dinner party. Just as the potential backer was about to
agree, Theodore showed up and changed everything.
She had had a bad feeling back then–Theodore was targeting
Garrett.

Maybe it was because Theodore had already known about
Garrett’s true identity. Over the years, Theodore had been in

charge of the Melendez family, and he was the favored heir.
Garrett’s return threatened his position.
Of course, this was something Bethany figured out later. Back at
that dinner party, she had put in a word for Garrett after
Theodore left.

The Pierce family’s influence in Gerberton was not to be
ignored. What was more, rumors had been circulating that the
Pierce family and the Melendez family were about to be united
by marriage. Therefore, the backer had granted her the
courtesy and agreed to give Garrett the contract. Later that
night, she had taken him to the hospital.
She had done Garrett a big favor and fallen for him at first sight.
Later, he had done her a favor, too.
But back then, what he had held for her was nothing but
gratitude.
Her eyes reddened as she wrapped her arms around Garrett’s
back from behind. “Garrett, everyone thinks Theodore is a nice
person. Only I know how hypocritical he is. Did he do
something in secret to hurt you again?”
Garrett’s palm was still bleeding, and he used his uninjured
hand to pry hers loose from his waist.
Chapter 22
“Let go, Beth. I gotta go.”
“No, Garrett. I don’t care what others say. You’re the one I trust
the most. You need someone to talk to–I know you’re holding
back a lot inside.”
Back then, Adrienne had enjoyed his affection for granted
while refusing to share his burdens. It served her right that
things between them had turned out like this.
Standing in place, Garrett gazed at the sky, not saying a word.
After a few words, he forcibly pried her hand away.
“Garrett!”
She stood there, watching the back of his car until it vanished
from her sight completely.
A man hidden behind a pillar slowly stepped forward and
sighed, “Look how he treats you–why are you so obsessed with
him? You’ll be better off with me.”
