Chapter 24
Other than uneasiness, she felt puzzled, too–wasn’t it Corinne
who had asked someone to call her?
Tabitha’s expression darkened when she saw Adrienne.
Noticing this, the others were secretly gloating.
Everyone knew Tabitha disliked Adrienne. If it weren’t for the
stunt Adrienne had pulled, Garrett would have been engaged to
Bethany back then.
Over the past three years, Adrienne had obediently stayed at
Cloudhaven Mansion, only ever leaving when Corinne called
for her. No one else had ever sought her out.
Since marrying Garrett, Adrienne had encountered Tabitha
only a handful of times–each meeting met with the same glacial
stare.
Tabitha stood up and said, the disapproval in her tone
undisguised, “Corinne, you should rest. Stop wasting your time
on people beneath you.”
Knowing she was referring to Adrienne, Corinne was so furious
that she clutched her chest. “All of you, get out! I want Adri to

take care of me.”
The other could only leave.
After they all walked out the door, Adrienne stepped forward.
“Corinne, are you OK? You should be more careful from now
on.”
Holding her hand, Corinne sighed, “It’s so late. Did I disturb your
rest?”
It was already one in the morning–how did Adrienne even get
here? Did she take a cab or something?
“No, you didn’t,” Adrienne said with a smile.
“Adri, you didn’t go back to Cloudhaven Mansion tonight.
Where did you stay? You don’t have a place. Did you go to a
hotel? Is it safe?”
Adrienne parted her lips but didn’t know what to say for a time.
After quite a while, she said truthfully, “One of Theo’s places is
close to where I work, He said he wouldn’t be using it for the
next few years and offered me to stay there.”
Corinne was both relieved and pissed off. “You’re Garrett’s wife,
yet he’s not as good to you as Theodore.”
Chapter 24
Adrienne forced a smile and lowered her head.
They talked for a while. Corinne was already in poor health,
and the fall left her even weaker. She yawned wearily.
“Corinne, I’ll stay here tonight to look after you,” Adrienne said.
“That’s not necessary. I’ve got a caregiver here–no one else needs
to stay. Adri, take care of yourself. Maybe try for a baby with
Garrett. He’s getting more and more outrageous, always talking
back to me. Maybe being a father will knock some sense into
him.”
Adrienne nodded perfunctorily, and a surge of bitterness settled
over her as she left the ward.
On her way to the elevator, she overheard Tabitha and Garrett’s
conversation before turning around the corner.
“What the heck are you thinking? Theo wouldn’t get a
girlfriend just to spite me, and you–you’ve been married for
three years with no child. If you don’t love Adrienne, then just
go have a baby with Beth. I’ve always liked her better anyway.
Or better yet–just get a divorce and do right by Beth. I know
she’s always been waiting for you all these years.”
Garrett leaned against the wall leisurely, making it impossible
for Tabitha to know what he was thinking.
Chapter 24
Her tone became helpless.
“Tell me. Do you have feelings for Beth or not? Don’t keep her
hanging like this. Theo has been refusing to settle down, and
that’s already driving me crazy. At least you are with someone.
Just have a baby with Beth already, or I’ll never stop worrying
about this.”
“Alright,” Garrett said.
Gazing at the dark sky outside the window, he added, “It’s late.
Mom, go back and get some rest.”
Tabitha’s eyes lit up at his promise.
