Chapter 25
“I knew you wouldn’t let me down. Then get divorced from
Adrienne quickly–make sure you tie up all the loose ends. You
owe Beth, and you need to make it right with her properly!”
“Alright.”
Only then did Tabitha enter the elevator with a satisfied smile.
Adrienne froze in place, the dull ache in her chest draining all
color from her face.
In fact, she had suggested having a child with Garrett before,
but he had always responded with a cold sneer. Yet now, he
agreed to having one with Bethany so readily.
Not wanting to become that pathetic, desperate shrew again,
she quickly walked toward the restroom at the end of the
corridor.
She stared at her pale, disheveled reflection in the mirror for a
long time. Then she lowered her head and splashed cold water
on her face.
Waterdrops rolled off her long lashes, making her look even
paler and more fragile.
Chapter 25
She stood in front of the mirror, trying to pull herself together
for a long time. Then her phone dinged. It was a message from
Bethany.
Bethany’s messages to her during these years had been nothing
but caring check–ins, and this one was no exception.
“Adrienne, how’s your injury healing?”
She always couldn’t help but check out Bethany’s Instagram
every time she received such phony concerns.
Sure enough, Bethany had posted today.
It was a photo, in which her wine glass was next to Garrett’s
hands.
His hands were more beautiful than most, but there was never
a trace of a wedding ring.
Over the years, Bethany had been posting on Instagram
frequently, and every single post was related to Garrett.
Adrienne, Garrett’s nominal wife, could only know his
whereabouts from Bethany’s posts.
For example, he had gone skiing in the mountains and dined at
an underwater restaurant with Bethany at Christmas.
Chapter 25
They had even gone to Cloenia, chasing glaciers and penguins
and sleeping under the sky in a glass–walled house.
While they traveled the world, Adrienne had remained at
Cloudhaven Mansion like a listless, caged bird.
Bethany had always texted Adrienne with polite concern over
the years.
In Adrienne’s darkest days, she had replied to Bethany with
razor–edged words, which were screenshotted and circulated
through all of Bethany’s group chats. Gradually, everyone came
to believe Adrienne was a vile woman.
Adrienne knew this was Bethany’s tactic, trying to wear her
down bit by bit.
Bethany indeed got her way. Every day in the past three years
was pure torture to Adrienne.
She didn’t reply to Bethany’s message. After spending another
half an hour in the restroom, she finally came downstairs.
As she stood at the hospital entrance, wanting to hail a cab, a car
stopped in front of her.
She recognized the license plate. It was a string of ones, uniquely
unmatched across Gerberton.
Chapter 25
The car window rolled down, revealing Garrett’s face.
“Get in the car.”
Adrienne acted as if she hadn’t heard him. She walked past the
car to get a cab.
But she heard the sound of the door opening after she had taken
a few steps.
Garrett clutched her wrist, forcing her to stumble back.
She caught a whiff of blood, and her gaze inadvertently fell
upon his hand, which was still bleeding. The blood had even
smeared onto her wrist.
She instantly frowned, turning pale as she hurriedly reached
out to push him away.
Ever since that car accident, she had been terrified of blood. Its
smell always hit her like a punch, making her gag.
Garrett knew this better than anyone. He cursed under his
breath before hiding the injured hand behind his back and
trying to pull her with the other.
