Fiona
Rolling over, I feel for Ethan.

I open my eyes and look around the room, feeling a sense of déjà vu hits me when I find myself alone. However, after I sit up, I notice a piece of paper on the bedside table with a set of keys. My stomach flips as I scramble across the bed, grabbing the note and reading it.
Fiona,
I had to leave early for a meeting, but I didn’t want to wake you. Feel free to use my shower if you want, but if not, take your time getting ready at home. I’ll handle the office until you get there.
Let me know when you make it home and when you’re headed to the office.
Ethan
Butterflies erupt in my stomach, and I can’t help but roll over, giggling and kicking my feet at the sweet note.
After I’m done freaking out about Ethan’s change in attitude, I gather what’s left of my clothes and throw on the sweatshirt Ethan left on the chair for me. I get dressed quickly, and without stopping to speak to the staff, I make my way outside.
A black car sits in the driveway waiting for me, and I climb in, running my hands over the leather steering wheel. It’s a much nicer car than mine that got totaled, though, it’s not as nice as Ethan’s car.
Last night was amazing. After we left the office, Ethan asked me to stay the night, and I thought he wanted to have sex again, but we didn’t. He took me to bed and curled his body around mine, holding me all night long.
He didn’t push me to have sex again, but I would’ve. The way he touched me made me feel like I was in heaven even while we were just lying in bed. It was only Ethan, though. Nothing with Jack ever felt this good.
When I get to my house, I rush inside. Ethan said to take my time, but after the sweet note, and yesterday, I’m actually excited to see him. I want to see him.
I hum all through my shower, and then rub strawberry scented lotion all over my body when I get out. A floating tune echoes in my mind as I get dressed, choosing a sexy set of black lingerie, just in case, and then find the only work- appropriate dress I have in my closet and pull it on. I opt for my black three–inch heels that are the perfect height for a working environment.
Once I’m dressed, I make my way downstairs and into the kitchen. I need lunch for the day because I don’t want to assume Ethan will provide me with lunch, so I walk to my pantry and freeze when I open the door.
Every cabinet is full with different types of foods lining the shelves, everything from sandwich supplies, to canned foods, to
snacks.
That’s when I notice another note taped to the shelf holding two loafs of bread, peanut butter, and several other types of spreads that go on bread.
Fiona,
I had your fridge filled with anything you might want to eat. If there’s anything you don’t have that you want, let me know, and I’ll have it sent over. Make sure to pack a big lunch, or don’t. I’ll make sure you’re taken care of either way.
Also, I want you to eat lunch with me today.
I’ll see you at work.

Ethan
My heart flutters in my chest, and I let out a little squeal before I can hold it back.

“I found something.” Ryan says through our mind link.

“Where are you?” I ask, standing from my desk. I’d left Fiona alone in my bed only to arrive at the company with no news from Ryan yet. I should have waited until he contacted me before leaving because it took every ounce of my willpower to get out of my bed this morning.
“In the security office,” Ryan answers. I drop what I’m doing and rush out of my office. I should’ve taken care of Fiona’s tormentors before I left. If I had, she wouldn’t have had to face so much trouble while I was gone.
“We’ll keep her safe,” my wolf says, pacing in my mind.
“We will,” I agree. From now on, I’ll do whatever I can to help her.
No more pushing her away or making her feel like she’s beneath me. My wolf was right. She’s our mate and nothing is going to change that. After seeing her injured and hearing about the attack, I realize I want to protect her.
She’s mine to protect.
“What did you find?” I ask as I enter the security room. Ryan and a guard stand behind the ten monitor screens, watching the videos.
“Right here,” Ryan says. He points at the screen on the far right, and I lean in. “While Fiona was on her lunch break and you were in a meeting, Angela snuck in and tampered with the paperwork.”
The video runs through the scenario just how Ryan said, with Angela sitting at Fiona’s desk. She looks around suspiciously as she gets into Fiona’s computer, and for about twenty minutes, she works on messing up the report.
“Get Angela to my office, now. I want this dealt with before Fiona arrives,” I growl, marching out of the room. If Angela thinks she can get away with one, hurting my woman, and two, sabotaging my company, she has another thing coming. Her father’s power and money will only get her so far.
“She’s on her way, Alpha,” Ryan says with a more serious tone.
My anger grows as I make my way into my office. This insignificant woman, even after warning, decided to stick her nose into business that didn’t pertain to her. If we hadn’t caught the report she sent out, our whole operation could’ve been set back months. There are kids waiting for the new treatment machines we’re working on.
Minutes after I enter my office, Angela saunters in, smiling and batting her eyelashes.
“Ethan, I knew you would get rid of that pathetic human and call for me to be your new secretary. She was a pitiful excuse for an employee. She was slow and couldn’t-”
“Shut the hell up, Angela,” I growl, stopping her before she can say anything that will anger me even more. I clench my fists and glare down at the little Alpha princess. “Fiona is none of your concern. She’s my woman, and I have given you plenty of warnings to stay away from Fiona. I will not allow you to continue hurting her.”
Angela’s mouth drops open in shock.
“Ethan Montgomery, the strongest Alpha in the world, is pining over a pathetic human?” She asks, disgust clear in her voice. The tone grates on my nerves.
“Kill her,” my wolf growls.

“We’re not killing her,” I tell him.

“Fiona is not your concern, and neither am 1,” 1 tell Angela. “In fact, you have no place in my life. You never did. The only reason you are here is because I allow you to be.”
“She isn’t good enough for you! She’s a human, you’re a werewolf, Ethan. You should not lower yourself to be with a human!” She shricks, throwing her arm out and pointing at Fiona’s desk.
I scoff and shake my head. I knew she’d wanted to be with me since, my father brought it up recently, but I would never choose someone so vile as Angela.
“I’d rather be with a human than a manipulative and spiteful woman like you, Angela. If you don’t want me to tell your father how you’ve been sabotaging my company and ruining relationships, you will tell me why you did this,” I demand, and her eyes widen. She moves forward, but I dodge her attempt at grabbing my arm.
“I–it wasn’t my fault. Please don’t tell my dad,” she begs. Wide, worried eyes stare up at me, but I find that I have no sympathy after what she’s done.
“Who do you want to blame now, Angela?”
I bet she always wants to put the blame on someone else.
“It was Jessica, her sister’s idea to sabotage the report. I’m not the real problem here. It’s Jessica,” she insists, making another grab for my arm. It’s like she thinks I’ll be nicer to her if she’s touching me.
Werewolves are a very touch–based culture, learning who our mates are by touch. Much of our affection is also shared through touch, which made holding Fiona last night so sweet. I don’t want to have any kind of close connection with Angela, not before or after what she’s done.
“Get out of my sit and out of my company, Angela. I don’t want to see you again.”
With much protesting and threatening to call her father, I force her out of my office and lock the door. Her threats fall flat. There is no way she’ll tell her father because he will interrogate her about losing her job.
In reality, I’ll be telling him. I took her in as a favor to him and my father, so he should know why I’ll be sending her home.
Sitting at my desk, I pick up my phone and dial the main desk at Silverclaw Law Firm. It rings a few times before an inviting woman answers the phone.
“This is Ethan Montgomery. I need you to transfer me to Jack Aldridge’s secretary.”
