Chapter 1 Leave With Nothing

Maryanne saw her husband kissing her own sister in the office.

“Cris, you’re so bad. My lips are all swollen now.“Her sister was gasping for breath.

Maryanne acted like she didn’t hear their chat.

She pushed open the half–closed door and walked in.

In the fancy office, Latoya Nielsen, her face red, was sitting on Cristofer’s lap.

Her lips had some telltale signs.

Seeing Maryanne, Latoya looked startled. She quickly got off Cristofer and said, “Maryanne, I…..”

They were still technically married, and it was awkward for her to be caught in this situation, acting like the other woman–even though she didn’t like Maryanne

Maryanne and Latoya were switched at birth. This marriage was actually supposed to be Latoya’s.

Maryanne ignored Latoya. She walked over and put the contract and the divorce papers on the table.

Then she looked at the man across from her, Cristofer, the richest guy in Summerville.

He was wearing a black shirt and black dress pants, looking cool and elegant.

Under his blond hair was a handsome face, with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes. He was looking at Maryanne like she was something he didn’t want to see, and it hurt her heart.

“The deal with the Horizon Group is done. Here’s the divorce

agreement. I’ve already signed it. It’s two in the afternoon. Let’s go get a divorce.”

She sounded really calm, like she didn’t care about the marriage at all.

But her face was pale, and her thin, frail body looked like it might give out at any moment.

No one had any idea–the price she paid to get this contract was taking a bullet.

Cristofer’s eyes showed a bit of surprise, but then he went right back to being cold. “Not bad. You got a contract that a lot of companies couldn’t. I’m curious, how did you do it?”

His voice was still low and scornful, as if he thought she might have used some shady tricks.

Maryanne clenched her fists and looked down a little, hiding the pain in her eyes.

She forced a smile. “If you only care about the end result, why bother with how we got there? Are we going to get divorced or not?”

Latoya stared at Cristofer nervously. “Cris, you promised you’d marry me. Maryanne took my place and married you. Now that I’m back, you have to keep your word.”

Cristofer gently touched her pure, pretty face and glanced at Maryanne with a shadowy look in his eyes. “Marry you? Of course. I’ll go get divorced with her right now.”

The way he looked at Latoya was so tender that it hurt Maryanne. She realized for the first time that Cristofer had never looked at her like

that.

“I knew you’d always be the best to me,” Latoya said, snuggling into Cristofer’s arms and giving Maryanne a smug smile.

Maryanne looked away, not wanting to see the heartbreak in front of her. She couldn’t even tell if the pain was from her wounds or her heart.

Cristofer pulled out the divorce papers and saw that Maryanne had changed one of the clauses. His eyes widened in surprise, and his voice got deeper. “You want to leave with nothing?”

Maryanne forced herself to say, her voice hoarse, “If we’re getting divorced, it needs to be clean. I’ll leave with nothing.”

If they were going to cut ties, she wanted to cut them completely.

Once she made up her mind, she never changed it.
