Chapter 1
In my previous life, everything changed with a single act of kindness–I saved Alpha Freddie by the sea.
That one decision sealed my fate.
His mother, Old Luna Kate, took a liking to me after that day and soon came forward with a marriage proposal. I was honored. Naive. Hopeful.
After the wedding, even we aren’t fated mate, we played the part of a devoted Alpha couple. To the pack, we were lovebirds. Unbreakable. Harmonious.
But that illusion shattered during the

magnitude–eight quake that struck the Crescent Pack.
It was then I realized the brutal truth–Alpha Freddie loathed me.
He hated that saving him left him with a crippled left leg. He resented the pup conceived on our wedding night, a daughter he never wanted. And most of all, he despised that I stole a moment he believed should’ve belonged to his ex–fated mate- Shirley Goodwin.
When the earthquake hit, and the world crumbled around us, I watched him. Just one glance, before turning his back and shielding Shirley and her precious little cat as they
fled.

My two–year–old daughter and I were buried alive in the rubble.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the island–the very day Alpha Freddie was bitten by a venomous snake near the shore.
This time, I didn’t lift a finger to help.
The moment I heard him cry out and collapse on the beach, I knew it–Moon Goddess had given me another chance. I had been reborn.
There was panic among the pack members as they rushed toward him, calling for a healer.
Beside me, my best friend Rosa grabbed my wrist and shouted, “Queenie can help! She

has a PhD in medicine!”
The sun scorched above us, waves thundered against the shore, and the salty breeze stung my skin. My senses screamed. The pain of my past death still clung to my bones like frost.
Rosa leaned in, whispering with excitement, “Didn’t you used to have a crush on Freddie? Old Luna Kate already treats you like a future daughter–in–law. If you save him now, he’ll have no choice but to marry you.”
Freddie.
Just hearing his name made my wolf stir, not in longing–but in cold, bitter memory.
Rosa’s voice carried, and heads turned. All

eyes were suddenly on me–including his.
I met Alpha Freddie’s gaze, and something sharp cracked open in my chest. His eyes were red–rimmed, shining with unshed tears, like a kicked mutt left in the rain. If I didn’t know better, I might’ve believed he actually cared.
But I remembered.
I remembered the rubble. The silence. My baby girl’s tiny, lifeless hand in mine.
My fingers trembled as I turned my face away. “I specialize in thoracic surgery,” I said calmly. “I’m not trained in treating venomous bites. Miss Shirley is a veterinarian–she should take a look.”

Shirley’s ears perked up. She rushed forward, practically glowing.
“Don’t worry, Freddie! I’ll save you!”
Old Luna Kate stepped in then, clearly distraught. “Shirley only graduated from a junior college! She’s a vet, for Moon’s sake -how can she compare to your level of medical expertise? Queenie, you have to help my son.”
I opened my mouth to explain, but Alpha Freddie snapped before I could.
“So what if she went to a junior college?” he snapped. “Shirley’s treated over a hundred dogs and cats! Queenie might have a degree, but she’s still a student–how many patients has she even handled compared to Shirley’s

rescues?”
Shirley jumped in with a wounded look. “I know Miss Queenie looks down on me because of where I studied, but I have the certifications to prove I’m just as capable!”
She pulled out eighteen laminated certificates from her bag like they were sacred scrolls. I didn’t know whether to laugh or roll my eyes.
Alpha Freddie, seeing her puffed–up pride, got even more protective. “I only want Shirley to treat me!”
Everyone knew werewolf law forbade vets from treating wolves in human form. That was the real reason I hadn’t let her treat him in my past life.

But this time? I didn’t care.
Alpha Freddie glared at me. “Queenie, why are you being so shameless? This is a matter of life and death, and you’re still competing with Shirley?”
Shameless.
The word hit me like a slap. The same word he used after our daughter was born. The same tone. The same disdain.
How did I miss it before? His devotion to Shirley had never been subtle. I had just been blind.
Shirley sniffled, eyes wide and watery. “Miss Queenie, I know you come from a

noble bloodline. You’re a medical prodigy. Of course you’d look down on someone like me. But Freddie’s life is at stake! Please stop standing in the way!”
Her performance was so convincing.
The mood shifted instantly. The crowd murmured. Judging.
“Queenie’s being cruel. She’s stopping a rescue!”
“I heard she’s just an adopted pup from the Crescent Pack anyway. Guess noble blood doesn’t equal noble heart.”
