Violet’s POV
The Next Day
“That isn’t a good choice. We should choose a different business,” Emily said
“I don’t see why. This is perfect,” Jane replied. We were at the college library working on our project. I wanted to work at the house, but Emily didn’t want Jane there, so we decided to go to the library instead. Emily’s parents agreed to watch Sofia so I could focus on our project, which I was grateful for.
“Because I don’t want to do the project on a modeling business. Creating a restaurant would be better,” Emily said
We don’t have time to argue, guys. We need to figure out what business we want to do our project on,” I said, annoyed. They had been going at it the whole time, so we barely got any work done.
“Well, tell Jane she isn’t the boss, and we all have a right to agree on what business we want to do our project on,” Emily said
“I am only making suggestions,” Jane replied
“What do you think, V? What business should we do our project on?” Emily asked
“I honestly don’t care. We need to leave to pick up Sofia from your parent’s house,” I said

“Okay. We will work on the project more tomorrow, Emily said
“I will see you later, Violet. You too, Emily,” Jane said
“Whatever,” Emily replied
“You really don’t like her, do you?” I asked Emily
“No. I don’t like her, and you shouldn’t trust her. I have known Jane my whole, and she isn’t a good person, she does things to benefit herself and doesn’t care if she hurts someone else to get what she wants. What she wants is to be with my brother. She is upset he broke up with her and is trying to use you to get what she wants. That is why Jane is being nice to you,” Emily said
“How would using me going to help her get back with him? I have nothing to do with your brother,” I said, confused. What Emily was saying didn’t make any sense.
“Just trust me on this; V. Jane isn’t to be trusted,” Emily said. I didn’t understand how Jane becoming my friend would help her get back with Ryan, but I trusted Emily.
“Okay, I believe you thought I don’t know why she would want to become my friend to get Ryan back. We aren’t close,” I said
“V, you have no idea, but soon you will understand,” Emily replied.
I looked at her for a moment but decided to leave the topic on Ryan and Jane alone. I was getting a headache trying to understand what Emily was saying. So we hopped into the car and headed to Emily’s parent’s house to pick up Sofia.

“Hey, Mom,” Emily said as we walked into the kitchen where her mother was. There were several people inside, and she was talking to another woman. It seemed like Emily’s mom was annoyed by the woman that was talking to her and was happy when we walked inside.
“Hey, Honey. Hey Violet. How did your studying go?” Emily’s mom asked
“It went okay,” Emily replied
“I heard you were working with my daughter on the project,” The lady said that was standing by Emily’s mom.
“Yes, Lisa. Jane is working with us on the project,” Emily said with a forced smile on her face.
“Where is my daughter at anyway? She is probably with your son. They have been together for so long I think it is time they moved to the next level if you get what I am saying,” Lisa said.
What the fuck was she talking about? Was she talking about Ryan and Jane getting married? Just thinking of him marrying her was making me upset, but why was I getting upset? Ryan was no one to me, and I had no say in who he chose to be with.
“You mustn’t have heard. Ryan and Jane are no longer a couple,” Emily’s mom said with a smile on her face. Lisa’s smile dropped, and she began to frown.
“What do you mean they are no longer together? Jane never told me that,” Lisa said
“I ended things with her the other day.” I looked at the kitchen entrance to see Ryan walking into the kitchen. I was shocked

to see Sofia holding his hand with an ice cream cone in her other. She had never been good with strangers, and it surprised me how comfortable she was with Ryan, Emily, and their parents.
“Vilet,” Sofia said as she walked over to me.
“Hey, Sof, did you have fun,” I said as I picked her up, and she nodded.
“I got ice cream,” Sofia said
“I see that. Did you say thank you,” I asked
“Tank you,” Sofia said, looking at Ryan.
“You don’t have to thank me, sweetheart,” Ryan replied.
“I hope you don’t mind that I took her to get ice cream. My mom was busy, and Sof was bored, so I asked if she wanted to go to the park, and she said yes. We passed the ice cream shop, and she asked for some. I couldn’t say no to her,” Ryan
said.
“Oh, it’s fine. It seems she likes you,” I replied. Ryan and I stared at each other for a moment. I couldn’t take my eyes off his. He was the sexiest man I had ever seen before. The sound of someone clearing their throat caused me to take my eyes
off him.
“When did you and Jane break up? You two have been
together for a while now. I thought you two were serious and ready to take the next step,” Lisa said, and Ryan’s looked at her with a frown.
