Chapter 133 Repay What You Owe Me
Madelyn and Josiah ran until they could no longer hear any noise behind them. They finally stopped, gasping for breath.
“We should be safe now. Let’s rest for a while,” Madelyn suggested, finding a rock to sit on.
Clutching his chest and panting heavily, Josiah also sat down.
He looked worriedly at Madelyn. “Are you okay?”
Madelyn had tripped over a rock and taken a hard fall during their escape.
She clutched her aching knee and shook her head. “I am fine.”
Josiah sighed in relief, then began to observe their surroundings.
They had been running to evade their pursuers and unknowingly ended up in a desolate area.
The place was full of dried grass, and it was pitch black all around. If it weren’t for Josiah’s phone having a bit of battery left, they wouldn’t even have the faint light they had.
“Where are we?” Madelyn asked, looking at the disordered environment. She felt a bit lost.
“How would I know? We just kept running and ended up here,” Josiah replied innocently.
It was clear that they were lost.
“We are in the middle of nowhere. It is pitch black and you are injured. I think we should go back the way we came,” Josiah suggested, clearly worried about his beloved car.
“No!” Madelyn immediately refused. “They might still be searching for us. Going back now would be like walking into a trap.”
“But…” Josiah thought about his precious car and their current predicament, feeling extremely frustrated.
He reluctantly said, “Okay then. What do you think we should do?”
Madelyn was also at a loss, but she knew that going out now was definitely not safe.
With no other choice, she endured the pain in her leg and stood up, glancing around the area.
She suddenly spotted a dark cave. Pointing to it, she said, “Let’s go there.”
Ten minutes later, they were sitting inside the cave.
Josiah had
gathered some dried grass and firewood at the entrance. He then started a fire inside.
Fortunately, the cave was dry and had two rocks that served as seats, giving them a place to settle down.
“Sigh, I must have the worst luck to run into you,” Josiah complained while adding firewood.

Josiah rolled his eyes, thinking about how utterly helpless he felt against her.
In the end, he leaned in closer and asked, “Where are you hurt?”
Madelyn shook her head again. “I am fine.”

Josiah’s eyes fell on her scraped and bleeding knee. “You are really stubborn, aren’t you? Do you think you are a cockroach? Sit still.”
Hearing this, Madelyn pursed her lips and reluctantly sat down.
Josiah patiently sat next to her and carefully picked out the small stones embedded in her flesh one by one.
“Ow!”
“Stop whining, I am being as gentle as I can!”
Despite grimacing in pain, Madelyn felt a strange warmth seeing his frustrated expression.
Afterward, Josiah tore a piece of cloth from his shirt to bandage her wound.
“Thanks,” Madelyn said, feeling a warm sensation in her heart.
“No need to thank me. You owe me big time,” Josiah grumbled.
Madelyn couldn’t help but smile.
Late into the night, Madelyn couldn’t stay awake any longer. She was exhausted.
Even though it was summer, the night was cold, especially in the cave.
Reluctantly, she turned to Josiah for help. “Josiah, it is so cold. Can I have your jacket?”
“You really are something, aren’t you?”
Josiah was furious. “You dragged me out here in the middle of the night to hide in this lousy cave, my car’s fate is unknown, and now you have the nerve to ask for my jacket?”
Madelyn cleared her throat awkwardly.
Turning around, she flashed a grin. “You should act like a gentleman, right?”
Josiah snorted. “Oh, now you remember I am a man? In the middle of the night, you want me to take off my jacket for you? Aren’t you afraid I’ll take advantage of you?”
“I know you won’t,” Madelyn replied with a smile. “You are not that kind of person.”
Josiah scoffed. “Hah, how do you know? Maybe I am that kind of guy.”

In the end, Josiah couldn’t argue with her and took off his jacket.
Satisfied, Madelyn fell into a sweet sleep, planning to head down the mountain at dawn.
Josiah sat beside her, watching her sleep, wondering what kind of mess he had gotten himself into. He was exasperated.
That night, the mountain path was bustling with activity with echoes reverberating everywhere.
Tristan and the others were calling for Josiah, while Sebastian’s people were searching for Madelyn.
Despite their combined efforts to search all night, they still found no trace of the missing two.
Sebastian stood like a statue by the roadside, his shoulders covered in dew, showing no intention of leaving.
He stared at the cliff below, unable to believe that Madelyn could have fallen down.
He couldn’t believe that she would vanish from his life forever.
Worried, Wesley tried to comfort him. “Sebastian, don’t worry too much. That brat…” He paused before adding, “She has a strong will. She’ll be fine.”
Sebastian remained silent, standing resolutely.
Meanwhile, at the foot of the mountain, a group of police officers had blocked all exits.
No one could leave, nor did anyone dare to try.
Anyone attempting to leave would be considered a suspect.
At the race course, someone revealed, “Did you hear? There was an incident on the mountain last night, and it is related to the Lockhart family.”
“What? The Lockhart family is involved?” someone exclaimed.
“Yesterday, there was a black limited edition Maybach. There’s only one in the world, and it belongs to Mr. Lockhart from the Lockhart family.”
“Oh my goodness!”
Hearing it was connected to the Lockhart family, everyone was filled with fear and unease.
