Josiah had dozed off without realizing it and woke to find Madelyn still sound asleep. He walked over to wake her up.
“Hey, it is dawn. Wake up.”
Leaning against the wall, Madelyn mumbled, “No, let me sleep a little longer…”
What?
Josiah almost laughed out of sheer frustration.
How could this woman sleep so soundly in the middle of nowhere? Is she serious?
Not holding back, Josiah pushed her awake. “Hey, lazy pig, get up.”
“Who are you calling a pig?” Madelyn shot back, finally waking up and glaring at Josiah.
Josiah couldn’t help but laugh. Instead of arguing, he looked at the sky and said, “It is morning. We can probably head back now.”
Madelyn nodded and used the wall to help herself stand up, only to grimace in pain. “Ow, ow, ow!”
“What’s wrong?” Josiah asked. He glanced at her knee and noticed that blood was seeping through the cloth wrapped around her injury.
D*mn it. I thought it was just a fall, but the injury was worse than I had expected.
Given the circumstances, it was better to get down the mountain and take her to a hospital than to do a makeshift bandage here.
With this in mind, Josiah asked, “Can you walk?”
Madelyn nodded. “I think so.”
As soon as she took a step, her leg gave out.
Josiah quickly caught her, muttering, “Really? If you can’t walk, just say so. Why push yourself?”
As he spoke, he promptly crouched down in front of her.
Madelyn looked at him, confused. “What are you doing?”
“Are you stupid? Of course, I am going to carry you. Can’t you see that?” Josiah was almost fuming.

“Get lost, I am not your lackey,” Josiah retorted, then stood up and started walking.

The path was easier to find in the daylight. In a few minutes, Josiah had carried her to the main road.
Just then, Tristan’s men called out not far away, “Josiah! Josiah!”
“Over here,” Josiah responded weakly.
Seeing him, one of Tristan’s men shouted, “Found him! Found him! Tristan, they’re here!”
Everyone rushed over, including Sebastian.
Madelyn saw Sebastian from a distance and began frantically patting Josiah’s back. “Put me down! Quick!”
“What are you doing?” Josiah, pained by her slaps, hurriedly set her down.
No sooner had he done so than Sebastian stormed over with a dark expression. He scooped Madelyn up without a word.
Before she could protest, Sebastian was already carrying her away.
Josiah immediately chased after them, blocking Sebastian. “Who are you?”
Sebastian didn’t even look at him as he was focused solely on Madelyn.
Embarrassed, Madelyn quickly reassured Josiah, “Josiah, I am fine. Thanks so much for last night. Don’t worry, I promise to keep my word about your car. Goodbye!”
With that, Sebastian carried her off.
Josiah was at a loss for words, yet he could do nothing but watch helplessly as Sebastian carried Madelyn away with determined strides.
On the way back, the atmosphere in the car was tense, the air–heavy.
Madelyn felt a chill from Sebastian’s dark expression.
Sebastian’s face had darkened to an extreme degree, appearing particularly terrifying.
Madelyn felt a bit scared and wasn’t sure if she should speak.
Finally, she mustered the courage to speak. “Sebastian, I am sorry…”
“You are courting death!” Sebastian suddenly exploded in anger.
Both Wesley and Madelyn were startled.
Sebastian’s tone remained harsh. “Next time you want to die, just let me know. I won’t stop you. But don’t drag others into it!”
He had searched for over six hours, fearing he might never see her again.

“You think there will be a next time?” Sebastian’s voice rose as his anger increased.

Madelyn immediately shook her head. “No, no, there won’t be a next time. I was wrong. I won’t do it again.”
Her pitiful tone made even Wesley feel sorry for her.
He intervened, “Sebastian, she’s apologized. Let it go. You didn’t sleep all night, and getting all worked up now will only harm your health!”
Upon hearing those words, Sebastian fell silent.

Knowing he hadn’t slept all night made her heart ache.

She said nothing and sat beside him quietly.
A little while later, they reached the foot of the mountain.
Jillian, who also hadn’t slept all night, was anxiously waiting there.
She had no other way to help, so she kept praying for Madelyn’s safe return.

turned.
As soon as those inside the car got out, Jillian’s eyes filled with tears. She rushed over and cried out, “Madelyn, You are back! Do you know how worried I was? I was so scared I’d never see you again, Madelyn…”
She hugged Madelyn tightly and burst into noisy sobs.
Madelyn hugged her back, comforting her, “Don’t cry, Jillian. I am back, safe and sound.”
Jillian nodded vigorously. “It is good You are back. I am sorry, It is all my fault. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have been in danger. I am so sorry…”
“Jillian, don’t say that. We are friends, aren’t we? If it were me, you would have saved me too, right?” Madelyn patted her head, trying to soothe her.
