Chapter 139 Truly Want To Break Off Our Engagement

In reality, Sebastian had also pondered over that question before. Whenever Wesley asked him what he found appealing about Madelyn, he was always uncertain inwardly.
If one were to set aside personal biases and objectively assess her, there wasn’t anything particularly appealing about her. In fact, she had many distinct flaws.
Although she was beautiful and carried herself with grace, there were others who were just as pretty, if not prettier. Renowned models with even more elegance were also a dime a dozen. And there was no shortage of prominent young ladies with far more impressive family backgrounds than hers.
Furthermore, Madelyn had an unruly personality. There were many women more obedient and sensible than her.
Yet, it was that very imperfect woman who captured Sebastian’s heart and mind.
Throughout his life, he had always been a cold and aloof person. Even when a devastatingly beautiful woman was before him, he remained indifferent. In fact, Wesley once questioned his sexual orientation, wondering if he was not attracted to women.
Everything changed when he met Madelyn.
His cold world seemed to be gradually melted by her radiant smile that resembled the sunshine. He found himself utterly captivated, unable to extricate himself.
From that moment on, he realized that his heart was irrevocably filled with the petite figure, and it was something that could never be changed in his lifetime.
After unknowingly consuming an untold amount of alcohol, Sebastian eventually started to feel somewhat tipsy, his gaze glazing over slightly.
Wesley footed the bill with his card before helping him up.
Having drunk, Sebastian certainly couldn’t drive himself. Fortunately, Wesley hadn’t consumed much alcohol, so he took the wheel and drove him home.
Before long, the car came to a stop in front of Lockhart Villa.
“Sebastian, are you okay? Do you need me to help you into the house?” Wesley asked in concern
Sebastian merely felt a bit dizzy. His mind was still quite clear, so he waved a hand in dismissal.

Seeing him stride right into Lockhart Villa, Wesley left with peace of mind.
By then, it was almost two in the morning.
Sebastian initially thought Madelyn had likely gone to sleep since it was so late and decided to spend the night in the guest room.
But upon entering the living room, he found Madelyn fast asleep on the cream–colored couch with a cushion in her arms, her neck tilted at an awkward angle.

Sebastian gazed at her sleeping countenance. Despite being irritated over the events during the day, he ultimately couldn’t bear to see her asleep while shivering.
And so, he walked over and bent down slightly, scooping her up into his arms. Then, he ascended the stairs and returned to their rom
Once they arrived at the room, he laid her on the bed, his movements gentle. As if worried about waking her, he carefully tucked her in.
Madelyn still had her eyes closed, appearing sound asleep..
However, just as Sebastian had settled everything for her and was about to leave, the suddenly reached out and wrapped her arms around his waist firmly, pulling him back to fall on her face–to–face
“Sebastian… You’re finally back.” Madelyn said in a murmur, opening her eyes.
Sebastian suddenly realized that she was merely pretending to sleep. His face darkened in an instant. “Let go of me!”
“No, never. Madelyn stubbornly wrapped her arms around his firm waist. She could faintly sense the contours of his waistline. It was so smooth and fluid that she couldn’t help but grope it a couple of times
As Sebastian sensed her touch, his body tensed up instantly, and he demanded in displeasure. “Madelyn. what on earth are you trying to do?”
“Nothing…” Madelyn pulled a long face, looking very much aggrieved.
Sebastian couldn’t help but scoff and push her away, his gaze turning much sharper. “Just yesterday, you spent the night frolicking on the mountain with another man. And now, you throw yourself into my arms? Madelyn, do you see me as a puppet to be manipulated at your whim?”
“No…” Madelyn immediately shook her head. “That’s not what I mean, Sebastian. What happened last night was a misunderstanding. Would you please let me explain? I’ll explain it to you.”
Regrettably, while she had the patience to explain, Sebastian hadn’t the patience to listen to her. “What’s there to explain? Your explanation would be nothing more than a fabricated excuse to fool me so I’d trust you again. Then, the next time, you’ll use the same tactic against me. Hah! It’s a classic case of the carrot- and–stick tactic. Madelyn, you only continuously provoke me with these tricks just because you want to break off our engagement, no? If that’s your goal, just say so! I won’t make things difficult for you.”
When Sebastian said that, he was practically gritting his teeth. By the end of it, his hands had balled into fists.
Madelyn shook her head. No, that’s not it at all!
Her eyes uncontrollably went red–rimmed. “Sebastian, are you serious? You truly want to break off our engagement?”
“Isn’t this the outcome you desire?” Sebastian snorted coldly. “I merely granted your wish.”
“No.” Madelyn struggled to deny it, her heart aching painfully

“Forget about them? Madelyn, how could you say it so casually? If it were truly possible to forget, I’d be more than willing to do so instantly! But your actions kept reminding me of your indiscretions time and time again. Your words and deeds always contradict each other! How am I still supposed to trust you?”
After he had finished saying that, he was livid and promptly shook her hand off.
He no longer wished to listen to her high–sounding explanation. The more she explained, the deeper the knife seemed to stab into his heart.
It’s enough! I already had more than enough!
“Sebastian…” Shaken off, Madelyn collapsed onto the bed weakly, overwhelmed with sorrow and defeat.
For the first time, intense self–loathing filled her.
Why did I do so many things to hurt him in my previous life? Had I not been such a jerk then, he wouldn’t have doubted me time and again in this lifetime!
At that thought, she wished nothing more than to immediately return to her previous life and kill that ignorant and unruly version of herself.
After all, all of this was all her fault.
“Rest well. I’m leaving.” In the end, Sebastian didn’t wish to speak further and turned to leave.
However, Madelyn couldn’t possibly allow it
After waiting for what felt like an eternity for him to be home, she wasn’t about to sit back and watch him leave again.
Suddenly, she threw herself at him with a courage that came out of nowhere.
She turned Sebastian’s face to her, then plastered her delicate lips onto his, capturing his cold and thin ones.
